And, because the aggregates are subject to arising and ceasing, they are under the control of others, while I experience and grasp myself as being independent and free. As it is said in the Root Wisdom: "If the aggregates were the self, they would be subject to arising and ceasing. But if the self were other than the aggregates, it would not have the characteristics of the aggregates." Even if the self is not established, if one thinks that it is established because its continuum is permanent, that is also not the case. As it is said in the Two Truths: "Continuum and moment, like a rosary and an army, are false." Therefore, merely relying on the collection of the five aggregates of clinging, even though nothing is actually established, due to the power of self-grasping, self and person, etc., are merely imputed in that way. As it is said in the Entering the Middle Way: "Therefore, there is no self other than the aggregates, because grasping at it apart from the aggregates is not established." And: "When one says the aggregates are the self, it is a collection of the aggregates, not the nature of the aggregates." It is like how a chariot is named for the collection of parts such as wheels and axles, but one cannot find a basis for the name of a chariot that is other than those parts. Similarly, there is only self-grasping in the collection of aggregates, but the basis for what is called self is not established. As it is said in the sutra: "Just as the name 'chariot' is used for the collection of parts, so too, relying on the aggregates, it is conventionally called a sentient being." Third: 'The imputers cannot be examined.' This means that even though neither the object of grasping nor the mind that grasps are truly established, one might wonder whether the imputation itself, the conceptual thought that imputes, is truly established. Does it have parts of the three times or not? If it does not, then the moment would be an unreal entity, and therefore any conceptual thought that exists would be an unreal entity. If it does, then the conceptual thought that arose earlier, the past part, has vanished and ceased to exist. The future has not yet arisen, so it is not established. The present conceptual thought cannot examine or measure itself, just as the eye cannot see the eye, and the edge of a sword cannot cut itself. As it is said in the Precious Garland: "Just as a moment has an end, so too one must examine the beginning and the middle. Thus, examining the three moments, the world does not abide in a moment." Fourth: In short, it is called the path. This means that, in short, the meaning of what has been explained, for dharma and person,

The two selves that grasp, and the two that grasp the object and the subject. And all that depends on them, including the basis of all, are they established as non-existent because they are without truth? If something that was previously established as truly existent later becomes truly non-existent, then it can be established there. However, since all phenomena are without inherent existence from the very beginning, they have transcended the extremes of both existence and non-existence. Saraha said: "Grasping at things is like livestock, grasping at non-things is even more foolish." And the Root Verses say: "Therefore, the wise should not dwell on existence and non-existence." As it is said, like the sky, freed from the husk of elaboration such as existence and non-existence. The activity of the mind that grasps at things and non-things is completely pacified. Having known from the beginning that there is no inherent birth through scripture and reasoning. That very state of unbornness is also beyond speech, thought, and expression, so it is necessary to realize that it has transcended the realm of sound, concept, and mind. The Engaging in Bodhisattva Deeds says: "When things and non-things do not remain before the mind, then there is no other form, and it is completely pacified without an object." So it is. That suchness cannot be expressed by words, so although all knowers directly know and see all knowable things, it seems that even the moons of speech are poor in expressive words to directly show suchness. The inexpressible, free from all elaborations of the eight extremes, is the great Madhyamaka, the pinnacle of the view of the Great Vehicle, and because it is the path, it is called the path thereof. Secondly, the way to practice through meditation is: "Thus, having placed it..." It is said, having thus well understood the suchness of the view free from elaboration. With the wisdom that discerns the ultimate, without finding any signs of elaboration, free from all thoughts of grasping at extremes, not clinging to anything, and with a firm conviction in the meaning of freedom from extremes, that stream of wisdom does not make any alterations with the mind of intellect and inference, such as clinging to emptiness that has denied true reality, but naturally abides as if the fire that arises from the rubbing stick and the rubbing stone burns both sticks and the fire itself disappears. The Treasury of Unborn Jewels says: "Do not think or contemplate anything. That which is unconditioned is the unborn Treasury of Jewels." And the Eight Thousand Verses says: "Wisdom"
