Now, to ascertain that the acting mind is without inherent existence, summarizing the meaning of the occasion. First, it is said, "Especially view from the outside as if." It means that when cultivating the wisdom ultimate Bodhicitta, which is distinct from the means, the conventional Bodhicitta, one initially grasps the external appearances as if they were truly real. If all the objects to be grasped are thoroughly examined with reason and logic, none of them are true; they appear like the illusory objects conjured by a magician. Furthermore, ordinary worldly people whose minds have not been transformed by philosophical tenets cling to appearances as being truly permanent. Although non-Buddhist extremists who have entered into wrong paths believe in permanence, oneness, independence, and so on, they are either unenlightened or have entered into wrong views. Thus, all appearances are subjects: they are not permanent because permanent things have no function, like the sky. That is a subject: it is impermanent because it can function through continuous change in the face of delusion, like seeds and sprouts. The appearance of permanence is a subject: it is not singular because things appear and change in various ways, like the different perceptions of one water element by the six classes of beings. That is a subject: its diversity is also not ultimately true because it arises from conditions, like a rainbow. The three realms are subjects: they cannot change independently because they follow the course of karma, like the suffering of change. Karma is a subject: it is not ultimately true because it is not established as an entity of substance and time, like the unconditioned. To put it simply, all conditioned things are not permanent. If they were permanent, then permanent things could not change into anything else. Like the nature of space, they cannot function in any way. They are impermanent because they continuously change in the second moment, like sprouts from seeds and the continuity of a flame, and can only function conventionally. So, is it established as impermanent? It is not established because permanence and impermanence are merely names that depend on each other. Therefore, if the basis of dependence is not established, the dependent thing is also not true. The Holy Foot said: If a thing is established by dependence, it also needs to depend on what is being depended on.

To accomplish, as it is said, "Relying on what does what get accomplished?" The essence is also not necessarily singular. If it were, then one and many would be contradictory, and it would not be reasonable for there to be various manifestations. Just as the essence of water is singular, but hell beings see it as pus and blood, hungry ghosts see it as pus and blood, animals drink it, humans use it, and gods see it as nectar, etc., it changes and transforms according to the manifestation of karma. The multiplicity of manifestations is also not true, because the single basis is not established, and therefore its characteristics are not established. Just as the characteristic-dependent son of a female donkey is not established, and therefore the characteristics of beauty, etc., are not established. As the Holy One said, "Things have no self-nature, because they change into something else. Things have no self-nature, because all things are empty." Thus it is. The so-called creators, such as Brahma, Ishvara, and Vishnu, etc., in the three realms, none are truly free. If there were, they would be irreversible like Nirvana, but all follow the path of good and bad karma, and therefore in the three realms, all are with outflows. So, is karma truly established? From the ultimate truth, karma is also not truly established. As the Holy One said, "In these dharmas, there is no coming and no going by the nature of dharma. How can karma and the ripening of karma be reasonable? In the ultimate truth, there is no place to come from, and there is no place to go to. In the conventional truth, one enters the path, and the ripening is shown to be near." Thus it is said. Among those who hold Buddhist tenets, the Sravakas of the Vaibhashika school, who are attached to partial views, believe that the manifested things are not true, and are conventional truth. But the limits that make up things and time are indivisible atoms that cannot be destroyed by hammers, etc., and the limits of cognition are inconceivable indivisible moments, which they consider to be the ultimate truth. As the Abhidharmakosha says, "What is destroyed or excluded by wisdom, and what wisdom cannot accept, like water in a vase, is conventional truth, and what is different from this is ultimate truth." Thus it is. This is also covered by the darkness of views, because atoms are not ultimate truth, because indivisible atoms are not established. If they were established, then like indivisible space and space mixing together, everything would be mixed in the same place, and it would not be possible to compose coarse things. As the Twenty Verses says, "When the six are combined, the finest atom becomes six parts, the six
