In each of their locations, the aggregate would become just a minute particle. Thus, if particles exist in various directions, then because they have divisions such as east, they have parts, which contradicts the previous commitment to being partless. It is also contradictory to assume that individual particles can exist without touching, because in the space where they do not touch, it is impossible not to have particles of light and darkness obstructing; if they obstruct, then they become without interval because of touching them; if they do not obstruct, then because of being without interval, it contradicts the previous commitment. It is also contradictory to establish time by the continuity of moments. If the prior and subsequent moments do not meet, then the subsequent consciousness becomes without cause, so the prior moment does not become a creator; even if they meet, if three moments meet at the same time, then everything becomes simultaneous, so an eon would become just one moment; if they meet alternately, then one part of a moment is past, the second part is present, becoming two parts, thereby breaking the commitment of being partless. This shows that because they consider knowable objects to be real, they inevitably fall into the extreme of realism, so this is considered the lowest view in Buddhist philosophy, and here it seems to be directly shown as just an example. This implies that the Sautrāntikas, who believe that knowable objects created by a creator in secret are merely nominal existents, and the Cittamatrins, who believe that all phenomena are true as mere appearances of the mind, are also schools that assert the reality of things, so one should enter the Middle Way through refutation by scripture and reasoning. Therefore, there is not a single phenomenon that is truly established, so although it does not exist, it appears; although it appears, it is not true, but appears falsely. That is merely an appearance of dependent origination, because if all phenomena were truly established from their own side, then the self-nature of things would not change, so no phenomena such as arising and ceasing would be possible. Because of the key of not being established, the phenomena of dependent origination can appear without obstruction, so emptiness does not obstruct appearance, and appearance does not go beyond the realm of emptiness. As Āryadeva said: "Apart from dependent origination, there is no other phenomenon; therefore, apart from emptiness, there is no other phenomenon." Such false appearances are merely dependent origination, which is similar to the examples of the nature of illusion, because they do not exist outside of the appearances of mental delusion.

Illusory examples include: Confused appearances like dreams; being mistaken for various appearances due to the assembly of causes and conditions, like illusions; relying on conditions and pervading everywhere, like reflections of the moon in water; appearing separately without a fixed location, like cities of gandharvas; appearing in various colors without true substance, like rainbows in the sky. One should view things in this way. As it is said: The stars are dim, and so is a lamp, Illusions, dewdrops, and bubbles, A dream, lightning, and clouds, View conditioned phenomena in this way. Secondly, the mind of the viewer is also merely imputed. As it is said, even if external objects are not established as real, is the internal mind of the viewer established as real? It is not established either. The mind is nothing other than the clinging to the aggregates as "I," the self-grasping that arises from imputing "I." And this self-grasping and "I" are not different. If examined with true wisdom, they are not established as such. The object of clinging to "I" or "self," the subject, is not established in the ultimate sense because it is neither different from nor the same as the five aggregates. The first is established because if it were different, it would be a sixth aggregate other than the five aggregates, which is impossible in the knowable. It is like the name of a barren woman's son. If it were the same, it would be one entity, but the five aggregates are real, and self-grasping is imputed, so their natures are contradictory, like things and non-things. To make it easier to understand, it can be said that the "self" is different from the collection of the five aggregates, and it is not perceived as the same as the five aggregates, so the "self" is not established. Firstly, if the "self" and the aggregates were established as different, there would be another entity, a sixth aggregate. Moreover, self-grasping does not apply to anything other than the aggregates. Also, because it lacks the characteristics of the aggregates, it becomes a non-thing, and a non-thing cannot perform a function, so it is not established as different. Thus, although it is not established as different, is the second, the "self" and the aggregates, established as the same? It is not established either because their natures are incompatible. Furthermore, the aggregates are conditioned phenomena, so they are established as impermanent. However, the "self" mistakenly believes that what was seen before is what is known now, and clings to it as permanent, so the two are contradictory. Also, the aggregates, such as form and feeling, contain many subdivisions and are a collection of many things. However, the "self" clings to "I am I" and clings to it as singular.
