Because it is not truly existent, like an image in the sky, it is separate from the three—arising, ceasing, and abiding. Having understood this, it is crucial to look at the nature of delusion and abide in a state of non-discrimination. As stated in the *Compendium Sutra*: "When conditioned and unconditioned dharmas, black and white dharmas, are all destroyed, and wisdom is shattered like dust, at that time, everything is unseen. The world is then the perfection of wisdom, like the sky, not abiding anywhere." Thus, this is the essence of the path. Secondly, gather in the post-meditation period. It is said that even in the post-meditation period after rising from equanimity, one should not cling to all phenomena of appearance and sound as truly existent. All appearances of external objects are like dreams that appear without existence, arising suddenly from the collection of causes and conditions, like illusions. Appearing as existent when they are not, like cataracts. Appearing but not truly established, like mirages. Appearing without existing anywhere inside or outside, like echoes in a valley. Appearing as the dependent and the depended upon, but in reality, not existing, like cities of gandharvas. Appearing but without inherent existence, like reflections in a mirror. Appearing as anything and everything without existence, like emanations. One should view them as similar to these eight examples of non-existence, and with the three doors of body, speech, and mind, engage in virtuous actions as much as possible, without expecting results. Enter the boundless gates of merit, accumulate vast amounts of merit, and understand that even that is like an illusion, without attachment. Practice the path with the view of the three spheres being pure. All samsaric dharmas included in the aggregates, elements, and sense bases, all afflictions, the reality of which is the tathagatagarbha, depend on innate ignorance. Actions and elements arise, being defiled by sudden stains, manifesting through impure causes and conditions. The twelve links of dependent origination revolve in reverse order. Ignorance and craving, these three afflictions create the two karmas of action and existence. From this arise the seven bases of contaminated existence: consciousness, name and form, six sense bases, contact, feeling, birth, old age, and death. And from these also arise three afflictions, revolving mutually like the bird and the egg. In the *Essence of Dependent Origination Madhyamaka*, it is said: From the three, two arise.

As it is said, "Two arise from seven, seven arise from three, this wheel of existence, itself revolves again and again." To be far removed from the suffering of existence, the supreme peace of liberation, also, when birth ceases, old age and death cease. When existence ceases, birth ceases, and so on, reversing the twelve links of dependent origination, with the root of ignorance collapsing, that very impurity is purified, and it is merely pure dependent origination. Although the ultimate nature, luminous and clear, transcends the dependent origination of that which generates and that which is generated, it appears merely as a nominal connection, as the twelve links of the root of existence at the base stage, the twelve links of truth at the path stage, and the twelve aspects of purity at the fruition stage. As it is said in the "Praise of Names": "The twelve links are the root of existence, holding the twelve aspects of purity, having the aspect of the four truths." In short, all phenomena of the three paths of samsara, nirvana, and the path are merely appearances of dependent origination, and yet they are without inherent existence and are not truly established. As the noble Nagarjuna said: "Since there is no phenomenon that is not dependently originated, therefore there is no phenomenon that is not emptiness." Therefore, since all appearances of the path depend on dependent origination, those who desire liberation, from the initial intention to enter the Dharma and rely on a lama, until the actualization of the true fruit, should arrange all the causes for practicing the sacred Dharma and the conditions that become its companions in a solely virtuous direction, so that both temporary and ultimate benefits will be greatly accomplished. As it is said in the "Letter to a Friend": "Dependent origination is the precious and profound treasure of the Buddha's speech, whoever truly sees this, sees the Dharma, and that one sees the Thus-Gone One." Second, the increase of the inner generation and completion stages is twofold: the increase of the generation stage and the increase of the completion stage. The former is twofold: general and specific. The former, as it is said: "Cultivate samadhi internally." That is, cultivating and increasing the samadhi of the two stages internally, the method of increasing is also: first, no matter what kind of conceptual generation stage is practiced, it is appearance without inherent existence, the image of emptiness like water.
