Clear! Whatever afflictions arise, they arise as Dharmata; whatever suffering occurs, there is no harm; no matter how much happiness arises, there is no benefit; the mind rests naturally, without needing correction; even without practice, one does not separate from Dharmata; because there is nothing better than this, doubt does not arise; because the object of practice is not seen, mental effort is not needed; when the mind transforms into Dharmata, abiding without increase or decrease, this is the intention of the Dharmakaya, which is equality. When stability is attained in this way, since one has not yet achieved self-mastery, it is called the self-appearance of non-conceptual wisdom. The teacher said. Jomo asked the teacher: What signs will appear from practicing properly? The teacher said: As mentioned above, practicing for a long time will bring about inner and outer signs. Among them, the inner signs are: during meditation, one does not feel the breath going in and out; one does not feel the existence of the body; one does not feel hot and cold and extreme discomfort; even if it happens, one does not feel it; great joy and happiness that cannot be pointed to anything arises naturally. At that time, attachment to any object is small; the attachment of thinking "what is this" becomes small; fear and doubt about anything become small; all thoughts such as self-grasping, attachment, memory, the eight worldly concerns, etc., become more and more subtle and peaceful. Until these signs appear, one should strive to be in harmony with the signs. Miraculous powers and knowing the minds of others will also gradually appear. These are the inner signs. The outer signs are: light emanates from one's body; seeing light, colors, or various shapes in the sky; seeing the bodies of noble ones and Buddhas, hearing sounds, and being offered to; they preach the Dharma to oneself, receive prophecies, and so on. If one clings to these and considers them to be real, demons will interfere and turn them into faults. If one does not cling or crave, then they are signs of virtue. Jomo asked the teacher: How should one behave after rising from meditation? The teacher said: As mentioned above, after rising from meditation, there are two ways to train: training in accordance with wisdom is: whatever appears as self and inner and outer things, one should believe that they are illusory appearances like dreams; then

What to do, and for whom to use it? In the four modes of conduct, one should grasp it with mindfulness. Whatever the body appears to be, neither negate nor affirm it; one should train in neither grasping nor abandoning. One should train in not being attached to whatever actions of body, speech, and mind one performs. Thus it is said. Training in accordance with the means is: towards sentient beings who are like illusions, generate compassion that is like an illusion; if it does not harm meditation, also practice various benefits; also make vast aspirations such as the 'King of Good Conduct' (Samantabhadra's Prayer); distinguish between virtue and vice, and practice various virtues; if one practices while clinging to characteristics, it will not be equal and is not a higher vehicle, therefore one should realize that oneself and all things are like illusions; being free from fearing samsara due to non-virtue, or hoping for enlightenment due to virtue, etc.; without abandoning all the accumulation of merit and purification of obscurations, in a state of equality without acceptance or rejection, until one has not gained confidence in equality, one should strive to purify obscurations and accumulate merit. Having gained confidence in equality, and even practicing without acceptance or rejection, in order to make others abandon evil and engage in virtue, one should also respectfully observe all vows and commitments, without attachment. Thus it is said. In general, for all of these, one should not judge whether practicing or not practicing is good or bad. If one practices with acceptance and rejection while clinging to characteristics, it is an obscuration that does not give equality, just as the sun is obscured by both white and black clouds. Therefore, having gained confidence in equality, if one observes the keeping and breaking of vows, it is a fault of not realizing suchness. Thus it is said. Whatever disturbing thoughts of good and bad circumstances, and gain and fame, etc., arise, do not let them control you; do not keep them in mind, abandon them. Abandon all of your own faults, idle talk, and distractions; also train in making the conduct of body, speech, and mind extremely gentle. Do not think about the faults of others, think about their qualities. If one thinks that one has qualities such as realizing the nature of reality, and becomes arrogant, boasting and haughty, then the Dharma has declined and has not entered one's mindstream, therefore one should abandon it. Thus it is said. In short, conceptual thought is samsara, non-conceptual thought is nirvana, therefore a yogi abiding in noise and distraction is called samsara. Even if one abides in equality without attachment for a moment, in that interval it is nirvana.
