Ra. Even when indulging in the five desirable qualities, if one is sustained by view, one will not be tainted by faults, it is said. Jo asked the master: How should one settle into equanimity of mind? The master said: One should settle into equanimity with the three unobstructed expanses of mind: the unobstructed expanse of the senses, the mind of the sky; the unobstructed expanse of the nature of reality, the mind of non-grasping and non-attachment; and the unobstructed expanse of wisdom, the unwavering mind of no object. These three are also contemplated without artifice and settled into equanimity, it is said. Jo asked the master: Where should one establish confidence in the result? The master said: Whatever arises is an example of mind itself arising as the result, showing that the result is not to be sought elsewhere. For example, an image appears in the ocean, and constellations appear in the sky, but they do not appear from elsewhere; they appear from themselves. Similarly, one's own mind arises as the result, and naturally arises and appears from the beginning as one's own. The result arises in oneself, it is said. Jo asked the master: How does one sever the root of conceptual thought? The master said: By the three unmodifiable methods of modification, conceptual thought is shown to become naturally pacified: the senses are clear in their objects, so there is no modification; the nature of reality is unborn, so there is no modification; conceptual thought is clear as wisdom, so there is no modification. And why is that? Because there is nothing that is not mind, so everything should be realized as wisdom. Thus, conceptual thought is clear in the nature of reality, so it becomes naturally pacified. Jo asked the master: How does one achieve the key point of not needing to negate the appearance of objects? The master said: From the words of the self-liberated mind, everything is clear, so there is no need to negate, as shown by six examples: 1. The senses delight in objects and are clear in the nature of reality, so there is no need to negate, like a precious golden island; 2. Conceptual thought is clear as wisdom, so there is no need to negate conceptual thought, like adding wood to a burning fire; 3. In the nature of reality, there is no need to abandon things, liberation without abandonment, like a great garuda fully feathered in its egg; 4. There is no duality of meditative equipoise and subsequent attainment, so there is nothing to settle into, like a bird dwelling in the sky; 5. Everything is not other than mind, so there is no need to abandon afflictions or purify obscurations, like darkness cannot be purified from the essence of the sun; 6. Object and mind

Since it is clear without duality, there is no need to differentiate, just like there is no differentiation in the sky. Or, this is the realm of activity of six things that do not need to be negated: It is said that since obstruction cannot obstruct, non-obstruction is clear as the nature of reality. Jomo asked the teacher: How to make the mind and the nature of reality inseparable? The teacher said: Use the example of six inseparabilities to show that the mind and the nature of reality are inseparable: 1. Water and moisture are inseparable; 2. Fire and heat are inseparable; 3. Conch and whiteness are inseparable; 4. Brocade and the image of brocade are inseparable; 5. Gold and gold ornaments are inseparable; 6. Samsara and Nirvana are inseparable. Similarly, all phenomena and sentient beings are inseparable within one great bindu. Not distinguishing between existence and non-existence, it is clear in the mind, and that is true wisdom. Dharma is also in the mind, and the mind is also Dharma, inseparable and not different. Jomo asked the teacher: What is the example of the spontaneous arising of appearances and existence? The teacher said: Use the six examples without before and after to show the spontaneous wisdom of appearances and existence: Just like the previous six examples of water, etc., without distinction and without before and after; all phenomena of appearances and existence and the nature of reality also have no before and after; the great wisdom holder is self-born and self-manifesting. Jomo asked the teacher: How does a yogi eliminate the eight obstacles and dangers of the mind? The teacher said: The method for a yogi to eliminate the eight obstacles and dangers on the path of the mind is: to eliminate through realization: 1. Eliminate the danger of dualistic grasping and reach the fortress of seeing non-duality; 2. Eliminate the danger of conceptual thought and reach the fortress of non-conceptualization; 3. Eliminate the danger of views and reach the fortress of no view; 4. Eliminate the danger of acceptance and rejection and reach the fortress of no negation and affirmation; 5. Eliminate the danger of grasper and grasped and reach the fortress of being free from grasper and grasped; 6. Eliminate the danger of hope and fear and reach the fortress of self-illuminating Bodhi; 7. Eliminate the danger of attachment and reach the fortress of no attachment; 8. Eliminate the danger of effort and striving and reach the fortress of spontaneous accomplishment. Abiding in the eight fortresses, integrate all phenomena into the Bodhi mind and eliminate without negation and affirmation. Everything is clear in the mind, therefore eliminate narrowness and become vast and capacious. The teacher said this. Jomo to the teacher
