I wrote these down on the twenty-second day in the Thoting cave of Yerpa. Treasure seal, concealment seal, entrustment seal. Namo Guru! The one named Padmasambhava, whose mind is inseparable from Samantabhadra, the perfectly enlightened Buddha, who holds all dharmas in his mind through view and intention, who constantly abides in the true meaning without wavering. Jomo Kharchenza Tsogyal asked him about all the key points of all the months in the intention of elevating the view. Jomo Kharchen asked Padmasambhava: Where do all the dharmas of samsara and nirvana originally come from? The master replied: All the dharmas of samsara and nirvana come from the increase of the imprints of names. There are three kinds of names: the name of mind, the name of heart, and the name of name. Among them, the name of mind produces conceptual thoughts, the name of heart accumulates imprints, and the name of name manifests various things. Therefore, it is said that cutting off the attachment to names brings happiness. Jomo asked the master: How can one be freed from the attachment to names? The master said: If the name of mind is free from thoughts and discriminations, the name of heart is free from good and evil, and free from these, the name of name is free from attachment, free from the dreams of various imprints, thus free from the attachment to names. Free from these, one is free from the name attachment of the bardo. Free from these, one is free from the name attachment of birth and death. Free from these, one cuts off the cycle of samsara. All dharmas are imputed, and what is imputed is name. Name is unreal, and being free from the attachment to names brings happiness. Jomo asked: What is the method to liberate from the attachment to names? The master said: How the dharmas of samsara and nirvana appear, attachment, like and dislike, happiness and suffering, the attachment to I, self, others, etc., the name will not change, the name will not be established, and anything that remains in its own state will naturally be liberated. Jomo asked the master: In the boundary where neither Buddha nor sentient beings exist, how does one abide? The master said: In the moment when neither Buddha nor sentient beings exist, there is neither knowing nor unknowing, neither realization nor non-realization, neither yes nor no, neither good nor evil, abiding in a state free from all name attachments. Jomo asked the master: Sentient beings name

How did this attachment arise? The teacher said: Without names to grasp, the 'I' and 'mine' arose, thus increasing the habit of self-grasping. Parents, children, wealth, enemies and relatives, homeland, fields, etc., are all grasped as names. Because of the name of self-grasping, one wanders in the six realms. The woman asked: How can one attain Buddhahood? The teacher said: One cannot attain Buddhahood through fabricated Dharma; one needs unfabricated Dharma. One cannot attain Buddhahood through expressible Dharma; one needs inexpressible Dharma. One cannot attain Buddhahood through spoken Dharma; one needs unspoken Dharma. One cannot attain Buddhahood through practiced Dharma; one needs unpracticed Dharma. Do nothing, go nowhere, without concept, without elaboration, without comparison, without entrustment, without reliance, without object, without grasping, abide in a state of having nothing whatsoever. Do not give the name 'Buddha.' The Dharmakaya is beyond speech, thought, and expression. The woman asked the teacher: Is there, then, no Dharma to practice? The teacher said: It is and it is not. Appearances appear in every way, but in essence, there is nothing. Yet it is the basis of all things. There is not a speck to be expressed, yet it is the ability to express all things. There is no dwelling place for attachment, yet it is the support of all things. It is free from all birth and death, yet it is the root of aging and death. Abide in the state of non-fabrication, non-transformation, primordial vastness, primordial abiding, and freedom from elaboration. Samsara and Nirvana are naturally liberated in their own place. The secret enemy, the 'I' and 'mine,' is pacified in its own nature, turning bad omens into auspiciousness. The woman asked the teacher: Does the mind have a basis of faults? The teacher said: Non-realization is the basis of faults. Realize that the essence of mind is emptiness. In the vast Dharmakaya of emptiness, the stains of faults do not abide. All Buddhas of the three times attained Buddhahood through realizing the nature of mind. Therefore, determine that there is no basis of faults. The woman asked the teacher: Are objects and mind dualistic? The teacher said: What appears as objects is the appearance of mind. The various appearances are the activity of mind. The essence is emptiness. The appearance of objects is liberated naturally without being abandoned. Therefore, determine that objects and mind are not dualistic. The woman asked the teacher: Can Buddhahood be attained from elsewhere? The teacher said: The three times abide.
