The master said: Signs include dream signs, warmth signs, appearance signs, and realization signs. There are five appearance signs: like smoke, like a mirage, like a firefly, like a city of Gandharvas, and like a cloudless sky. These are the stages of experience, explained with metaphors. Dream signs are: seeing Buddhas and Bodhisattvas residing in their respective forms; seeing oneself as equal to the Buddhas; seeing oneself clearly as a deity, without obstruction in front or behind; seeing all Buddhas and Bodhisattvas bowing, worshiping, and making offerings to oneself, who is clearly visualized as a deity; dreaming of the Buddhas giving and explaining profound Dharma. Furthermore, always dreaming of being naked is a sign of purifying habitual patterns; climbing a ladder to the sky is a sign of grasping the path; riding a lion and an elephant is a sign of subduing the earth; the image smiling, etc., are signs of receiving prophecies. Even if these good dream signs appear, do not be overjoyed. The warmth of meditation has three aspects: outer, inner, and secret. Outer warmth is: during meditation, seeing coarse particles, letters, heart and hand gestures, and subtle forms; seeing the coarse arising of the five colors of fire, water, etc. Inner warmth is: when meditating on the deity, not feeling the breath moving in and out; the body becoming as light as cotton; without aging or decline. Secret warmth is: by meditating on the deity as merely illusory, wisdom naturally manifests; compassion arises in equanimity; individual objects of experience arise as wisdom. Signs include outer signs and inner signs. Outer signs are: light appearing; the deity's image smiling; a great sound appearing; a fragrant smell appearing; butter lamps lighting themselves; the Vajra (藏文,梵文 Vajra,梵文罗马拟音 Vajra,金刚) flying into the sky; no discomfort. Inner signs are: greater compassion than before; less attachment; no partiality; pure samaya, and genuine affection for the guru and vajra siblings; freedom from hope and fear regarding samsara and nirvana; not being afraid of demons, etc., many things will occur. Even so, do not be overjoyed, but cultivate diligence. These are the warmth and signs that arise from meditating on the deity. The master said. Jomo asked the teacher: The benefits of meditating on the deity...

When asked what the result would be, the master replied: The merit of practice is the purification of obscurations and the accumulation of merit. By practicing the deity, because all conceptualizations can be exhausted, the obscurations of the cycle of existence arising from karma and disturbing emotions can be purified. The accumulation of merit has five fruits, namely the four vidyādharas, which are the fruits of the path, and the ultimate fruit. There are two types of vidyādharas: qualities and essence. The qualities are the six superknowledges and the four magical powers. The essence is the vidyādhara of complete maturation, the vidyādhara of mastery over life, the mahāmudrā vidyādhara, and the spontaneously accomplished vidyādhara. The ultimate fruit is that, by practicing in this way, even if one's wisdom is shallow, there is no doubt that one will attain the state of perfect and complete enlightenment. Jomo asked the master: In the Prajñāpāramitā, it is said that one must practice the five paths. How can this be combined with the complete practice of the deity mandala? The master replied: Yogis practice the deity mandala with four paths: the path of accumulation, the path of seeing, the path of meditation, and the ultimate path. That is, the stages of the path are combined with recitation and practice. Recitation is the path of accumulation, near recitation is the path of seeing, practice is the path of meditation, and great practice is the ultimate path. There are four paths of accumulation: practicing the heat of suchness and illusion, practicing the samādhi of the subtle peak, the one mudrā, practicing the patience of the manifestation of discriminating non-play mudrā, and accumulating merit in the supreme uninterrupted path of worldly dharma. That is, with the samādhi of suchness, all dharmas abide in the mind, and the mind does not make any effort, and naturally does not discriminate in the nature of dharma, and practices without manifesting. Illusion is the self-manifestation of the unborn realm, the nature is clear, and while it is clear, it does not discriminate, and it appears like the light of the sky, and practices the clarity that is inseparable from emptiness and does not discriminate. If one is able to do so and manifests, and distinguishes the lineage of the great and small vehicles, one will attain the heat. The signs are that parasites do not grow on the body, inner and outer impurities are purified, one is free from diseases of the four elements, and one attains the tolerance of the body, etc. There are eleven signs of non-retrogression.
