It does not remain constant, but is the increase of the essence of emptiness; it does not remain cut off, but is clear and uninterrupted. Awakening has no limits, but is oneself abiding in the Dharmakaya; samsara has no doubts, but samsara is liberated into the Dharmakaya. Transform conceptual thought into wisdom; as soon as suffering arises, it is transformed into wisdom, without needing to be eliminated, so it is said. If you know how to meditate like this, it will not be inverted. Meditate on this with perseverance; meditate with unwavering devotion; by meditating in this way, the habitual tendencies of past attachments will diminish. Through the power of meditation, the feeling of clarity, bliss, and bodilessness will arise. If you do not meditate, you will not be able to stop sudden illusions; you will not be able to stop the habitual tendencies of past attachments. Therefore, just as a great banner is not moved by the wind, keep awareness inseparable from the nature of reality and meditate steadily. This is like a beautiful woman looking in a mirror, observing what flaws there are in her appearance; with samadhi, examine the meaning of view and conduct, examine whether there are any faults such as sinking or excitement, and always meditate, so it is said. This is the instruction for meditating in the bardo of samadhi, so it is said. Jomo asked the teacher: In the dream bardo, what is it that connects habitual tendencies like a river? The teacher replied: This is the instruction for conduct; for example, just as a river flows continuously, the instruction is to combine the awareness of present samadhi and the time of dreams into one; there are three ways to do this: mixing with instructions, mixing with elements, and mixing with conduct. First, mixing with instructions is: sleep should be maintained in a state of inseparable bliss and emptiness; there are also three ways to do this: gather awareness and guide it inward; gather the body and curl up the limbs; gather both, and at the time when habitual tendencies are intertwined, in a state of drowsiness, do not separate from the experience of bliss and emptiness. At the time when habitual tendencies are not stable, all times of falling asleep should not be separated from the experience of meditation. In this way, you will master the bardo. Mixing with elements is: first, at the time of falling asleep, dissolution is like water dissolving into earth; at this time, you should practice the experience of bliss and emptiness; when awareness is slightly dull, it is like water dissolving into fire; at this time, you should practice bliss and emptiness; when awareness is confused, it is like fire dissolving into wind; at this time, you should practice inseparable bliss and emptiness; when sleep is scattered.

At that time, the wind merges into consciousness. At that time, one should also practice the inseparability of bliss and emptiness. The state of being still without dreams is when consciousness merges into clear light. At that time, the unborn, unremembered, bliss and emptiness will abide together in stillness. At that time, one will be able to master the bardo. So it is said. To integrate with conduct is: One should generate a strong aspiration to recognize dreams as dreams. During the day when meditating, one should also maintain an awareness like that of a dream. One should know that all phenomena are like dreams, and that all happiness and suffering are illusions. One should remember previous meditation experiences. When one has meditated to the point where there is no difference between dreams and daytime, since dreams and the bardo are similar, by meditating on the above points, one will be liberated in the bardo. So it is said. It is like a river that flows continuously; one should meditate continuously day and night. So it is said. This is the teaching of the instructions for practicing in the dream bardo. So it is said. Jomo asked the master: Continuing the experience in the bardo of birth and death is like building a dam on a broken irrigation ditch. What is it like? The master replied: There are two kinds of instructions for continuing the experience in the bardo of birth and death, like building a dam on a broken irrigation ditch: to be shown clearly by other conditions, and to be shown clearly by the realized one himself. The first is to be shown clearly by the master or Dharma friends, and should be done as if one were showing it oneself. The second is to show it clearly oneself: the nature of mind is without birth or death, and it abides in one's own mind. When earth dissolves into water, the body does not become cold or heavy. When earth dissolves into water, the breath extends outward and gathers inward. When water dissolves into fire, the mouth and nose become dry, and the breath becomes short both internally and externally. When fire dissolves into wind, awareness becomes unclear. When wind dissolves into consciousness, the breath ceases. At that time, one should clarify one's own awareness, and by raising awareness, without being controlled by external conditions, one should restrain both body and mind, and death also abides in one's own mind. Even though the body is separated from flesh and blood, the mind is neither separated nor not separated. One should remember the meaning of the previous view and meditation. So it is said. At that time, just like building a dam on a broken irrigation ditch, when the previous moment ceases, the next moment continues due to the force of habit. So it is said. This is the teaching on continuing the experience in the bardo of birth and death.
