Those arrogant ones also do not realize that they have been deceived by demons, so he said. Jomo asked, "How do they exist?" The powerful ones exist, deceived by the demon of pride and arrogance; the foolish ones exist, deceived by the demon of sweet-talking deception; the ordinary ones exist, deceived by the demon of ignorance and delusion; the rich ones exist, deceived by material possessions; all practitioners also exist, deceived by the demon of increasing material possessions; they exist, deceived by the demon of increasing karmic debts and offspring; they exist, deceived by the demon of disciples' respect and veneration; they exist, deceived by the demon of loving close attendants and retinue; they exist, deceived by the demon of hatred and confrontation; the flattering words of relatives are the deception of demons; physical prostrations are the deception of demons; gentle and sweet words are the deception of demons; mental attachment and clinging are the deception of demons; beautiful and moving love is the deception of demons; all diligence in illusory activities is the deception of demons; the five poisons residing within oneself are the demons of the mind; the imprints left by the six sense objects are external demons; attachment to the taste of samadhi is an internal demon; hoping for the fruit of Dzogchen is the demon of view; those with great qualities are also demons, and those who are ignorant and deluded are also demons. Therefore, the great demon is clinging to self. It is not something else, but destroy it within oneself. In short, if you destroy the demon within, then demons will not arise from without, but there are many who do not recognize the true face of the demon, so he said. Guru Padmasambhava said: Those who practice Dharma must cut off the five poisons from the root. Jomo asked, "How is that done?" Those who have great anger suffer greatly themselves; those who have great ignorance are like animals, so they do not understand the Dharma; those who have great pride do not generate qualities and have many enemies; those who have great desire cannot keep vows and have many lies; those who have great jealousy are greedy for high positions and like to create discord. Do not follow these five poisons, but kill them in your heart at the same time as they arise and are liberated. Those who freely engage in the five poisons create suffering for themselves, so he said. Guru Padmasambhava said: Those who practice Dharma must first tame their own minds. Jomo asked, "How is that done?" The fire of anger must be extinguished with the water of loving-kindness; the river of desire must be crossed with the powerful bridge of antidotes; the darkness of ignorance must be dispelled with wis
