Ma For practitioners, there must be no delusion at any time. There must be no delusion in meditating on karma and its results, so one must avoid even the slightest negative actions. There must be no delusion in contemplating the guru as the Buddha, so one must always contemplate the guru on the crown of one's head. In general, there must be no delusion in contemplating all practices as emptiness, so one must realize that all is the nature of the union of emptiness and form. Guru Padmasambhava said: Practice must be cultivated through the gateway of the six paramitas. Jomo asked: How should they be cultivated? The master said: If you do not think of any miserliness in your mind, that is the paramita of generosity. Abandoning afflictions through skillful means is the paramita of discipline. If there is no anger or resentment in your mind, that is the paramita of patience. If there is no laziness or idleness, that is the paramita of diligence. If there is no distraction or attachment to the taste of meditative absorption, that is the paramita of meditation. If there is no manifestation of elaboration, that is the paramita of wisdom. Guru Padmasambhava said: There are three kinds of busyness in practice. Jomo asked: What are these three? The master said: Not focusing on other activities, but being busy with whatever is for the sake of the future, that is the busyness of the lowest person; there is no way not to attain higher realms. Being disgusted with all of samsara and being busy with virtuous activities, that is the busyness of the intermediate person; there is no way not to attain liberation. For the sake of all sentient beings, cultivating the mind of enlightenment, that is the busyness of the supreme person; there is no way not to attain perfect enlightenment. In short, being as busy in the morning as in the evening, these busynesses are for the sake of this life; this life is full of afflictions, and in the future there is nowhere to go but the three lower realms. Guru Padmasambhava said: All practitioners are very sad when relatives die, but it should not be like that. There are five things that practitioners should be sad about. Jomo asked: What are these five? The master said: If you are separated from a good teacher, you should be sad and perform a death ritual. If you are separated from a good Dharma friend, you should be sad and accumulate merit. If you experience decline and ruin, you should be sad and perform restoration and confession. If you are sick for a long time and cannot do virtuous deeds, you should be sad and rely on a guru. Worl

If one's mind is lost to the eight worldly concerns, one must renounce attachment to suffering from the depths of one's heart. Generally, it is said that those who do not understand the impermanence of conditioned phenomena will not attain the cessation of suffering and liberation. Guru Padmasambhava said: To practice Dharma, four types of farming are needed. Jomo asked: What are those? The Guru said: With unwavering faith, one must soak the wildness of one's being; with meditation and practice, one must fertilize the transformation of the mind; one must plant the good seeds of virtue, embraced by the mind of enlightenment; with the yoked oxen of skillful means and wisdom, a diligent person holding the plow of wisdom must thoroughly eradicate the five poisons and all conceptual thoughts. By doing so, the sprout of enlightenment will surely grow into the fruit of Buddhahood. Generally, without toil in worldly farming, one cannot achieve the farming of liberation. Have compassion for sentient beings. Guru Padmasambhava said: If you practice Dharma, you must observe eight silences. Jomo asked: What are those? The Guru said: Silence of body, reside in a solitary place, free from bias, thus turning away from attachment and aversion; silence of speech, remain like a mute, thus avoiding conversation with others, which is necessary to prevent distraction from virtuous practice; silence of mind, do not constantly give in to the power of thoughts and distractions, which is necessary to abide in the inconceivable nature of reality; silence of possessions, abandon thoughts of purity and impurity regarding food, which is necessary for simple living and gathering dakinis; silence of instructions, do not give them to those who are not vessels, which is necessary to receive the blessings of the lineage; silence of conduct, act naturally, free from conventional rules, which is necessary to prevent the accumulation of obscurations in the mind; silence of experiences, whatever experiences and realizations arise, keep them secret from others and do not explain them, which is necessary to attain the siddhi of Mahamudra in this life; silence of realization, abide free from bias and extremes, according to your wishes, which is necessary to be liberated in this very moment through realization alone. Generally, even a brief virtuous act is impossible, and one cannot observe silence until a session of recitation is completed. For those who cannot control their desire to speak, no silence will be successful. Guru Padmasambhava said: The
