Tad! Jomo asked the master: What is the boundary between wealth and non-wealth? The master replied: What is called wealth is what is needed and clung to; what is called non-wealth is what is not needed and cuts off attachment. When putting this into practice, looking to the right, one sees gold; looking to the left, it is no different from dung. Clinging to gold and cutting off dung, both are contained in one's own mind. Because the mind itself has no substance, gold and dung are no different. This is the key to realizing that gold and dung are not different. Very important, Tso-gyal, I entrust it to you! Jomo asked the master: What is the boundary between the grasped and the grasper? The master replied: What is called the grasped is clinging to the external object as real; what is called the grasper is clinging to the internal mind as wrong. When putting this into practice, looking at the external object of the grasped, appearance is empty in its own place; looking at the internal mind of the grasper, the mind is empty of substance. When one realizes this, it is the key to the grasped and the grasper, appearance and emptiness, merging into non-duality. Very important, Tso-gyal, I entrust it to you! Jomo asked the master: What is the boundary between what should be taken and what should be abandoned? The master replied: What should be taken is what is not abandoned from the mind but is paid attention to; what should be abandoned is what is cut off from the mind. When putting this into practice, because one understands the suffering of samsara in one's mind, one understands that nothing is necessary, thus separating from worldly thoughts. Because aversion to samsara arises, one understands that nothing is necessary. When one understands that there is nothing to take or abandon, it is the key to the liberation of taking and abandoning in their own place. Very important, Tso-gyal, I entrust it to you! Jomo asked the master: What is the boundary between conceptual thought and non-conceptual thought? The master replied: What is called conceptual thought is remembering and paying attention; what is called non-conceptual thought is not paying attention to anything. Non-conceptual thought is clinging to movement as self-purifying. When putting this into practice, no matter what conceptual thought arises, without abandoning or changing it, in its own self-purity, without essence, without attention, without trace, this is the key to conceptual thought merging into non-conceptual thought. Very important, Tso-gyal, I entrust it to you!

Padmasambhava, the Jomo (female practitioner) asked: What are the boundaries between the accumulation of merit, the cause, and the wisdom of fruition, the result? Padmasambhava replied: The accumulation of merit refers to the generation stage, recitations, offerings, tormas, generosity, discipline, patience, diligence, and so on. These are the accumulation of merit. Samadhi and wisdom, that is, meditating on the meaning of the emptiness of Dharma-nature, are the accumulation of fruition wisdom. Whichever of these you practice, if you are not attached to the agent and the action, and it continues to grow, this is the key to perfecting merit into fruition wisdom. Very important, Tsoyal (Yeshe Tsogyal), I entrust it to you. Padmasambhava, the Jomo asked: What are the boundaries between shamatha and vipassana? Padmasambhava replied: Shamatha refers to the gradual pacification of thoughts, the mind abiding without agitation. Vipassana refers to the complete and sudden seeing of the meaning of Dharma-nature. When practicing this in the continuum, abide in the meaning of the equality of Dharma-nature, and afterwards, whatever you see or think, the meaning of things naturally arises as emptiness. This is the key to the inseparability of shamatha and vipassana. Very important, Tsoyal, I entrust it to you. Padmasambhava, the Jomo asked: What is the difference between skillful means and wisdom? Padmasambhava replied: Skillful means refers to being skilled and realizing. Wisdom refers to knowing and being aware. When practicing this in the continuum, the nature of mind is the meaning of unborn, the emptiness in which nothing is established as its own essence, realize this with skillful means; know and be aware with wisdom. These two, emptiness and unborn, and Dharma-nature and wisdom, realizing them as non-dual, this is said to be grasping the key. Very important, Tsoyal, I entrust it to you. Padmasambhava, the Jomo asked: What are the boundaries between meditation and post-meditation? Padmasambhava replied: Meditation refers to the equal abiding of body, speech, and mind, causing the mind to not abide anywhere, but to abide in its own nature, making the abiding stable. Post-meditation refers to rising from meditation and then bringing the previous meaning into the path, thereby enhancing it. When applying this in the continuum, in meditation, contemplate all phenomena as being like the sky, free from elaboration; in the awareness after meditation, in the four activities of walking, standing, sitting, and lying down, bring the appearances into the path of freedom from elaboration. This is the key to the inseparability of meditation and post-meditation.
