It is necessary. Even without practice, one does not separate from the nature of reality. There is nothing superior to this, so no doubt arises. Because the object of practice is not seen, there is no need for mental fabrication. When the mind is transformed into the nature of reality, it abides without increase or decrease. This is the intention of the Dharmakaya, which is equality. When stability is attained in this way, since a Svatantrika is not accomplished, it is called the self-appearance of non-conceptual wisdom. The master said this. Jomo asked the teacher: What signs appear when one practices correctly? The teacher said: If you practice for a long time as described above, inner and outer signs will appear. The inner signs are: during meditation, one does not feel the breath going in and out; one does not feel the existence of the body; one does not feel hot, cold, or extreme discomfort; even if they arise, one does not feel them; great joy and bliss that cannot be pointed to anything arises naturally. At that time, attachment to any object will become small; the attachment of thinking "what is this" will become small; fear and doubt about anything will become small; all conceptual thoughts such as self-grasping, attachment, memory, and the eight worldly concerns will become increasingly subtle and peaceful. Until such signs appear, one should strive to be consistent with the signs. Miraculous powers and knowing the minds of others will also gradually manifest. These are the inner signs, the master said. The outer signs are: light emanating from one's body; seeing light, colors, or various shapes in the sky; seeing the bodies of noble ones and Buddhas, hearing sounds, being offered to; those people give teachings, give prophecies, etc. If you are attached to these and think they are real, you will be obstructed by demons and it will become a fault. If you are not attached and not greedy, it is a sign of merit, the master said. Jomo asked the teacher: After rising from meditation, how should one behave? The teacher said: After rising from meditation as described above, there are two ways to learn. Learning in accordance with wisdom is: whatever appears to oneself and external and internal things, one should believe that it is an illusory appearance like a dream; observe "what, where, who is doing"; grasp the four activities of walking, standing, sitting, and lying down with mindfulness; whatever the body appears to be, neither deny nor affirm it; learn not to grasp or abandon it. Body, speech, and mind three.

Whatever actions you do, you should learn to be non-attached, he said. Learning in accordance with the means is: Generate compassion like an illusion for sentient beings who are like illusions, and if it does not harm meditation, you can also do various beneficial things, and also make great aspirations such as the "Bodhicharyavatara," in the distinction between good and evil, you should practice various good deeds. If you practice by clinging to signs, it will not be equal and it is not the higher vehicle, so you should realize that yourself and all things are like illusions, and be free from fearing samsara because of non-virtue, or hoping for enlightenment because of virtue, etc. For everything of accumulating causes and purifying obscurations, do not give up, in the state of equal abiding without acceptance or rejection, until you have not obtained the confidence of equality, you should strive to purify obscurations and accumulate merit. Even after gaining confidence in equality and practicing without acceptance or rejection, in order to make others abandon evil and enter virtue, for all vows such as guarding the precepts, you should also respectfully do them without clinging, he said. In general, for all of these, whether you do them or not, do not judge them as good or bad. If you cling to signs and practice with acceptance and rejection, that is an obstacle that does not give equality, just as the sun is obscured by black and white clouds. Therefore, if you have gained confidence in equality, and still cling to guarding or violating vows, that is the fault of not realizing reality itself, he said. Whatever disturbing thoughts arise from good or bad circumstances and profit and fame, etc., do not let them control you, do not keep them in mind, abandon them. Abandon all your own faults, idle talk, and distractions, and also learn to be very gentle in the conduct of body, speech, and mind. Do not observe the faults of others, but think about their virtues. If you think that you have virtues such as realizing the nature of reality, and become arrogant and boastful, then the Dharma has not entered your mind, so you should abandon it, he said. In short, conceptual thought is samsara, non-conceptual thought is nirvana, therefore a yogi abiding in noise and distraction is called samsara. Even if you abide equally without clinging for a moment, in that interval it is nirvana, he said. Jomo asked the teacher: How does one attain Buddhahood by practicing in this way? The teacher said: The nature of reality
