When asked, "How does one ascertain a state like a child meeting its mother?" The master said, "In the bardo of naturally abiding, recognizing the bindu is like a wandering orphan meeting its mother and recognizing her as such, similarly, one recognizes oneself as the dharmakaya." There are three methods for ascertaining this: First, by the essence of emptiness and immutability, one ascertains the dharmakaya of abiding; second, by self-appearing without bias, one ascertains the wisdom of appearing; third, by effortless great bliss, one ascertains the non-dual wisdom. The first has seven qualities: First, it is not produced by a cause; second, it is not destroyed by conditions in between; third, it is self-arisen; fourth, it is not made by others; fifth, it is without substance; sixth, it does not arise suddenly from time; seventh, it is liberated from permanence and annihilation. The second, the wisdom of appearing, has two aspects: the outer appearance of delusion and the inner appearance of wisdom. How does the outer appearance of delusion arise? From the self-awareness, the mind of bodhichitta, this unaltered nature is like the sky, from which the condition of ignorance arises like a cloud of craving. When that arises, one enters the womb, and from that, one takes aggregates. When that is taken, the five elements arise, and from that, the five poisons arise. From the five poisons, five illnesses arise, and through that condition, one goes towards death. By dying, one revolves in the six realms. How does the inner appearance of wisdom arise? It is self-liberated, without grasping, appearing without substance or attachment. Ignorance appears as wisdom, the five poisons appear as the five wisdoms, the five elements are balanced, the five objects cut through imputation, attachment to the five bardos is reversed, one knows that sickness and suffering are pacified, the five demons become companions. The door to hell is blocked, and the precipice of the six realms is cut off; that time will come. Third, by effortless great bliss, one ascertains non-dual wisdom: Are the two, Buddha and sentient beings, the two, samsara and nirvana, the two, appearance and emptiness, considered to be different? The two, Buddha and sentient beings, do not have a before and after in time; the two, samsara and nirvana, do not have good and bad in essence; the two, appearance and emptiness, do not have difference in abiding, therefore it is non-dual. Therefore, it is effortless great bliss. To liberate attachment to this, the four key instructions liberate from the essential points: By self-appearing without bias, one desires to cling to the extreme of emptiness.

The clinging to arising is liberated. The essence of emptiness, unchanging, liberates the clinging to eternalistic views and permanence. Undifferentiated union liberates the clinging to alternating between truth and falsehood. The ground being without direction liberates the clinging to one-sided, swift downfall; these are to be cherished, it is said. The instructions for taking hold through the six introductions are: introduce appearance as mind, introduce mind as emptiness, introduce appearance and emptiness as non-dual, introduce non-duality as great bliss, introduce great bliss as non-conceptual, introduce non-conceptuality as the dharmakaya, it is said. The instructions for meeting the dharmata mother through the six seals are: seal appearance with emptiness, seal emptiness with appearance, seal the two as non-dual appearance and emptiness, seal non-duality with great bliss, seal great bliss with non-conceptuality, seal non-conceptuality with the unchanging dharmata, it is said. The instructions for the five decisive points are: the dharmakaya is primordially present within oneself, therefore decide that it is not to be sought or accomplished. Pleasure and pain abide in the dharmakaya, therefore decide that they are not to be accepted or rejected. The dharmakaya is without arising or ceasing, therefore decide that it is free from cause and effect. There is no grasping at yes or no, therefore decide that it is not an object of addition or subtraction. It abides continuously without being made, therefore decide that it is not fabricated by conceptual thought, it is said. The qualities of realizing the view are: wisdom takes its own ground, one meets the dharmata mother, signs dissolve in their own place. By understanding the bliss of recognizing activity, knowables are self-determined, the view is utterly clear. Wisdom takes its own ground, and no matter how much dharma one hears, one knows that there is nothing more to extract from appearance and emptiness. One knows oneself, one understands oneself, one knows that one has not gone beyond the sphere of one's own activity. By recognizing what is as what is, one meets the dharmata mother. When the object of the eye appears as form, although it appears, as soon as it arises without clinging, signs dissolve in their own place. In this way, as soon as it arises, one finds wisdom in oneself, one finds dharmata in oneself, one finds bliss from oneself, one understands the bliss of recognizing activity. This is the instruction for the great confidence view, it is also called the view of the unchanging lineage of the victors, it is also called the basis of confusion for identifying demons and thieves, it is also called the instruction for cutting off the beginning and end of samsara, it is also called the instruction for introducing mind as dharmata, these are all views.
