The尊者 said that the understanding of the equality of body, speech, and mind is very important in meditation. Jomo asked, "What is that?" The尊者 said, "The body appearing as the form of a deity, but its nature being emptiness and clarity, is the equality of body. Speech, the mantra of the deity being clear and pure, recited in the union of sound and emptiness, is the equality of speech. Mind, being free from conceptual thought, clarity and emptiness being inseparable, is the equality of mind. Not deviating from the equality of body, speech, and mind is what is called Mahamudra. Oṃ (藏文:ཨཱོྃ,梵文天城体:ओ,梵文罗马拟音:oṃ,汉语字面意思:嗡) body, Āḥ (藏文:ཨཱཿ,梵文天城体:आः,梵文罗马拟音:āḥ,汉语字面意思:啊) speech, Hūṃ (藏文:ཧཱུྃ,梵文天城体:हुँ,梵文罗马拟音:hūṃ,汉语字面意思:吽) mind, if these three syllables are recited regularly, one will possess the body, speech, and mind of all Sugatas. In short, if body, speech, and mind are separated, that is the wrong path of secret mantra." Guru Padmasambhava said, "It is very important to keep track of the number of recitations and sessions." Jomo asked, "What is that?" Guru Padmasambhava said, "When reciting mantras, divide the day into three or four sessions, and in each session, vow to recite: the best, a thousand times; the medium, five hundred times; and the least, one hundred and eight times. Until that is completed, keep silent and do not be interrupted by idle talk. This will prevent obstacles. Diligently reciting mantras is my key instruction. It can purify obscurations, accumulate merit, eliminate obstacles, and attain accomplishments. Among all mantras, the essence of the body, speech, and mind of all Sugatas is contained in these three syllables, so recite them. In short, accumulating drops will become an ocean. It is very important to learn even each syllable of the mantra without being stingy." Guru Padmasambhava said, "If skillful means and wisdom are not united, it will lead to the wrong path of secret mantra." Jomo asked, "What is that?" Guru Padmasambhava said, "Skillful means, whether practicing generation stage or completion stage, is not misunderstanding its meaning. Wisdom, if one does not realize the meaning of the view, the emptiness of phenomena, the self-arisen luminosity, one cannot enter the path of wisdom. Wisdom without skillful means will not generate experience; skillful means alone without wisdom cannot attain the nature of reality. Therefore, they must be united, inseparable." Guru Padmasambhava said, "If one does not understand the union of shamatha and vipashyana, one cannot attain the state of emptiness." Jomo asked, "What is that?" Guru Padmasambhava said, "In shamatha, abide in the nature of phenomena, the essence of non-substantiality, luminosity without conceptualization; in vipashyana, realize that all things are empty without inherent existence."

Without attachment or clinging to the experience of the lower realms, without samadhi or post-meditation, without objects or characteristics, it naturally dissolves. In general, samadhi and post-meditation should be like looking at a face and a mirror, without clarity or non-clarity. Guru Rinpoche said: If you do not know that sinking and excitement are pure in their own place, even if you meditate, you will fall into the end of faults. Jomo asked, "What is that like?" He replied, "When abiding in the self-illumination of Dharma-nature, when sinking and excitement arise, looking at them, sinking itself abides in the emptiness of Dharma-nature. Without attachment to sinking and excitement, having purified them, you will not fall into the end of sinking and excitement, but will naturally be liberated. If you know that sinking and excitement are pure in their own place, then meditation has arisen." In general, all meditation becomes mental meditation because of adjusting sinking and excitement. It is very important to realize that the root of sinking and excitement is emptiness. Guru Rinpoche said: If you do not know how to mix it with conduct, meditation will become a bondage. Jomo asked, "How does it bind?" He replied, "Abiding in the Dharma-nature that is free from elaboration, the experience in the continuum is practiced in walking, moving, lying down, sitting, and rising. Whatever conduct you do, it is not separate from Dharma practice, therefore, always abiding in the state of Dharma-nature, it will not be separated from meditation on the meditation cushion. In general, without grasping the key points of meditation, the great meditator who imprisons body and mind is the rope of bondage. Guru Rinpoche said: If you do not perform offerings and confessions, you will not purify karmic obscurations. Jomo asked, "What is that like?" He replied, "When practicing the key instructions, it is called integrating Dharma into conduct, that is, meditation, offerings, circumambulation, tsa-tsas, tormas, recitation, and all other Dharma practices are integrated into the path of non-outflow, and actions and activities will not be interrupted. Also, do not mainly practice due to attachment and fatigue, etc. In general, if it is not grasped with non-conceptual mind, then everything that is done will only increase the happiness and results of samsara, and will not become the path to enlightenment, it is meaningless. Guru Rinpoche said: If you do not generate the qualities of warmth from practicing the Dharma, then the key instructions have not truly landed. Jomo asked, "What is that like?" He replied, "The inner signs are that bliss, clarity, and non-thought arise naturally from within, the realization that is free from attachment to afflictions."
