Because it is free from the dreams of habitual tendencies, it is free from naming; because it is free from that, it is free from the naming of the bardo; because it is free from that, it is free from the naming of birth and death; because it is free from that, it cuts off the continuity of samsara. All dharmas are imputed, therefore they are imputed names; names are not true, it is said that it is bliss if one is free from naming. Jo Mo asked: What is the method to liberate from naming? The teacher said: How the dharmas of samsara and nirvana appear, and imputation, and like and dislike, and happiness and suffering, and all grasping of I, self, and others, etc., the name does not change, the name is not given; whatever is left in its own place is self-liberated. Jo Mo asked the teacher: How does one abide in the boundary where both Buddha and sentient beings do not exist? The teacher said: When both Buddha and sentient beings do not exist, one abides without knowing or not knowing; one abides without realization or non-realization; one abides without right or wrong, good or bad; one abides free from all naming. Jo Mo asked the teacher: How are sentient beings confused by being given names? The teacher said: When there is no naming, because the ego arises, the habitual tendencies of ego-grasping increase; therefore, one grasps the names of parents, children, wealth, enemies and friends, land and fields, etc. Because of the name of ego-grasping, one is confused in the six realms of existence. Jo Mo asked: How does one become a Buddha? The teacher said: One cannot become a Buddha by fabricated dharmas; one needs an unfabricated dharma; one cannot become a Buddha by representable dharmas; one needs an unrepresentable dharma; one cannot become a Buddha by speakable dharmas; one needs an unspeakable dharma; one cannot become a Buddha by achievable dharmas; one needs an unachievable dharma. Do nothing, go nowhere, no thought, no elaboration, no comparison, no entrustment, no reliance, no aim, no grasping, abide in a state of nothing at all. Do not name it Buddha; the Dharmakaya is beyond words, thought, and expression. Jo Mo asked the teacher: Is it like that, is there no dharma to be done? The teacher said: It is both yes and no; whatever appears can appear, but there is nothing at all, yet it serves as the basis of all things; there is not a single particle that can be represented, yet it serves as the ability to represent all things; there is no place to dwell with attachment, yet it serves as the support of all; it is free from all birth, old age, sickness, and death, yet

Without making a basis, without fabrication or alteration, rest in the state of original vastness, original abiding, free from elaboration. Samsara and nirvana are liberated in their own place. The secret enemy, ego-grasping, is pacified in its own place, and bad omens are brought into auspiciousness, he said. Jomo asked the teacher: Does the mind have a real basis for faults? The teacher said: Non-realization is the real basis for faults. Realize the essence of mind itself as emptiness. In the great Dharmakaya of emptiness, the stain of faults does not abide. All the Buddhas of the three times attained Buddhahood through realizing the nature of mind. Therefore, it is decided that there is no real basis for faults. Jomo asked the teacher: Are objects and mind two separate entities? The teacher said: What appears as an object is the appearance of mind. The various appearances are the play of mind. The essence is emptiness, so the appearance of objects is not to be abandoned, but is liberated. It is decided that objects and mind are not two separate entities. Jomo asked the teacher: Can Buddhahood be attained from another source? The teacher said: All the Buddhas abiding in the three times realized that their own mind is without birth. From the state of no-birth, the three kayas arise spontaneously. It is decided that it cannot be attained from another source. Jomo asked the teacher: What is the confidence that one does not fear change? The teacher said: Change is observed by worldly people. Because the power of self-awareness is complete, one always abides in the unchanging state of great equanimity. Therefore, it is decided that one is fundamentally free from change. Jomo asked the teacher: Where should one abide so as not to fear death? The teacher said: When the nature of mind is perfected in unbornness, although the body appears to transmigrate, the nature of mind is the empty and luminous Dharmakaya, and it is decided that it does not change. Jomo asked the teacher: What is the dangerous place of the six realms? The teacher said: The six realms appear as various sufferings. It is not done by others, but arises from oneself. Because one does not recognize oneself, one's own mind harms oneself. It is decided that one's own mind, the great emptiness, is separated from the root of suffering. Jomo asked the teacher: Is this nature of mind stained by karma and habitual tendencies?
