Accumulation is necessary to fulfill wishes; thereby, it is necessary to generate samadhi in the lineage; thereby, it is necessary to quickly attain the all-knowing Buddha. Guru Padmasambhava said: Claiming to be a Dharma practitioner, there are five falsehoods. Jo-mo asked, what are these five? The master replied: Being extremely fond of this world and repeating fearful words about the next life is a falsehood; doing deeds that do not fear the three lower realms and saying one takes refuge is a falsehood; not turning the mind away from desire and claiming to be a great meditator is a falsehood; not understanding cause and effect and saying one has realized the view is a falsehood; not cutting off the precipice of existence and saying one is a Buddha is a falsehood. There are many who claim to be Dharma practitioners and tell lies to both themselves and others, but at the time of death, all lies will deceive oneself. Guru Padmasambhava said: Practicing Dharma must possess five definite instructions. Jo-mo asked, what are these five? The master replied: Without practice, realization will definitely not arise; if the skillful means and wisdom of the Mahayana are separated, one will definitely fall into the Hearer Vehicle; if one does not understand the union of view and conduct, one will definitely go astray; if one does not realize the purity of one's own mind, there will definitely be good and bad karma; if one does not realize one's own mind, one will definitely not attain Buddhahood. Guru Padmasambhava said: There are five meaningless things in Dharma practice. Jo-mo asked, what are these five? The master replied: Relying on a teacher without essence is meaningless; relying on a disciple who does not keep vows is meaningless; knowing the Dharma but not practicing it is meaningless; meditating without benefiting one's own mindstream is meaningless; Dharma that is merely empty talk without benefiting oneself is meaningless. In general, doing many meaningless things is because of ignorance and not being able to distinguish. Guru Padmasambhava said: Dharma practice must possess six noble qualities. Jo-mo asked, what are these six? The master replied: Having mastery over the view, thereby knowing that everything is mind; in discipline, having no hypocrisy, thereby one's own mindstream is free from defilement; in generosity, having no partiality, thereby there is no taking and giving; in patience, being able to endure adverse conditions, thereby having no anger towards enemies; in listening, taming one's own mindstream, thereby transforming suffering into the path; meditation must not be taken away by the demons of merit; practitioners must also be in harmony with the Dharma.

He said that one should not be lazy. Guru Padmasambhava said that one must abandon four faults in practicing Dharma. The Jo-mo asked, "What are those?" The Guru said: "Practice cannot be done with laziness; like a flowing river, the yoga practice must be continuous. Experience cannot be like seeing ghosts; one must liberate one's own mind through Dharma. Behavior cannot be artificial; it must arise naturally from within. Respect cannot be just lip service; it must begin from the feet of the Guru. In short, a practitioner must be separated from these four faults; otherwise, at the time of death, one will only fail oneself." Guru Padmasambhava said that those practitioners who seek fame and fortune and like to calculate are worse than ordinary people. The Jo-mo asked, "What are those?" The Guru said: "Liking to show off that one is an old practitioner, liking to show off that one has relied on a Guru, liking to show off that one is an old practitioner, liking to show off that one has many Sangha members, liking to show off that one owns a monastery, liking to show off that one has abundant offerings, liking to show off that one is diligent in practice, liking to show off that one has psychic powers, liking to show off that one is in retreat, liking to show off that one has special instructions. If one cannot abandon worldly pride and only does superficial things, like a person's head being ground by a mill, one will only regret it at the time of death." Guru Padmasambhava said that if one sincerely practices Dharma, one must do fourteen opposite things. The Jo-mo asked, "What are those?" The Guru said: "Like a child of the mountains, go to a quiet monastery to practice; eat the food eaten during famine, do asceticism, and take in the essence; do not go to the places of high officials and nobles, do humble behavior; do things that enemies like, cut off relations with anyone; wear disgusting clothes, be a vagabond; hate the love of relatives and friends, cut off relations; compete with the Buddha, strive to practice; generate longing for the instructions, practice the Dharma; secretly contemplate the deity, strive to recite mantras; regard bad scriptures as evil, throw them behind; generously offer to the Guru, offer everything; turn away from Samsara, generate renunciation; give victory to others, do not be competitive; kill one's own pride, leave one's homeland. If you do this, you will enter the Dharma, otherwise you will only be in Samsara." Guru Padmasambhava said that one must abandon three diseases in practicing Dharma. The Jo-mo asked, "What are those?" The Guru said: "If you do not abandon the disease of the place, if you do not leave your homeland, you will be trapped in the prison of the five poisons and fall into the lower realms; if you do not abandon the disease of the dwelling, if you do not cling to houses and families, you will be trapped in the darkness of subject and object, and fall into the abyss of attachment."
