Dying without suffering is said to be a medium way of dying. Dying like a wild animal means dying without any attachment or clinging thoughts, which is said to be the best way of dying. Noble Lhajig, please listen carefully! In this way, there are three ways to attain Buddhahood at the time of death: People of inferior faculties accumulate merit and attain Buddhahood in the next life; people of medium faculties become familiar with practice and attain Buddhahood in the bardo; people of superior faculties attain Buddhahood without the bardo through realization. What we are talking about now is the pith instruction for attaining Buddhahood without the bardo, which is said to be the shortcut of Secret Mantra. This is also to summarize the key points of the pith instruction with three fundamental words: Completely attributing all external appearances to the nature of emptiness, in this way, the external six realms of the world cut off the root of the six realms of samsara; attributing the nature of internal clinging to the nature of clear light emptiness, in this way, the womb doors of sentient beings are emptied, cutting off all roots of rebirth; realizing that ignorance is unborn, cutting off the root of Dharma, and thus cutting off the root of good and evil. It is said that these three words are the pith instruction. The king asked: Venerable Master, how can the external appearing realm be completely attributed to the nature of emptiness? How can the root of the external container world's six realms of rebirth be cut off? The master replied: Noble Lhajig, please listen carefully! What is the external appearing realm? It is what appears now, with the four continents, Mount Meru, and countless worlds. In our view, it appears as land, stones, cliffs, trees, forests, etc. This is a reversed appearance arising from non-realization. In the Sutra Compendium, it says: One substance has one nature, but also has six wrong views and one correct view, and two inversions. Therefore, the water we see, gods see as nectar, asuras see as weapons, humans see as water, animals see as drink, hungry ghosts see as pus and blood, and hell beings see as boiling copper water, giving rise to six wrong views. But in reality, none of these are true. Holding onto these two inversions, the eternalist heretics believe that because cause and effect are constant, humans will be reborn as humans after death, horses will be reborn as horses, and so on. The nihilist heretics

Ema! The body is the habit of the four elements, the mind is the habit of the sky. The present conditioned appearances are sudden. It is said that after death, one does not take a body. These two are inverted thoughts. Then, what is the correct meaning? It is nothing at all, and it is separated from all attachments. The present appearances, such as earth, stones, mountains, rocks, trees, forests, etc., do not attach to any of these, do not practice anything, do not obstruct appearances, do not practice existence or non-existence, appearances are self-appearing, emptiness is self-empty, like the nature of the sky, the nature is self-empty, and it is established that appearances have no self-nature. Because such objective appearances do not involve attachment, greed does not arise, and the external container world is cut off at the root. There is no birth in the six realms, because the place of the six causes is empty. What is that? The appearances of the six realms are delusions. Separated from delusions, there is nothing to see in the objective appearances. The king asked: What is it that completely cuts off the nature of the inner grasping mind as clear and empty? The teacher replied: Lord Lhacig! Listen carefully! After completely cutting off the inner grasping mind in clear emptiness, and leaving the womb of the inner mind empty, just saying that the root of birth is cut off, then what is the inner grasping mind? It is parents, siblings, friends, children, wealth, enemies, relatives, etc. Then, what is the grasper himself? It is the mind with afflictions. Cutting off that root, that mind is not established anywhere, but it is not that there is nothing. When one has not realized it, the mind is the destroyer who creates everything, and it is called the mind that only thinks of bad things. After realizing that and cutting off the root of the mind, there is something clear and uninterrupted, which is called realizing the nature of the mind. That which is not established anywhere is called the Dharmadhatu. That is clear and uninterruptedly clear, and the appearance that is not established anywhere is emptiness. In this way, because the attachment to father and mother does not arise in anything in the objective appearance, the cause of the father's attachment and the condition of the mother's greed are exhausted, so there is no concern about being born in the womb of the six realms. The king asked: What is it that cuts off the root of the Dharma by realizing ignorance as unborn? Ignorance must be realized as unborn. What does unborn mean? The nature of the mind is not established in any nature, and it is separated from all the characteristics of elaboration, which is called the appearance of awareness as awareness, which is called knowing oneself.
