It is the nature of things that diligence alone will initiate. It is the nature of things that blessings will come even without asking if devotion to the Three Jewels is continuous. It is the nature of things that partiality towards dharma will be small if one studies and contemplates without bias. It is the nature of things that power and blessings will come if one meditates on the profound generation and completion stages. It is the nature of things that accusations will be few if one does not conform to ordinary human customs and appearances. It is the nature of things that body and mind will be comfortable at once if one abandons attachment and clinging. It is the nature of things that experiences will arise in the mind if one stays in a hermitage or monastery. It is the nature of things that obstacles and demons will not be able to penetrate if one abandons self-grasping and cherishing. It is the nature of things that the nature of things will arise in itself if mind looks at mind. It is the nature of things that qualities will arise without partiality if one always strives in practice. It is the nature of things that effort and accomplishment will be liberated in their own place if one knows the nature of mind itself. It is the nature of things that one does not need to strive in meditation if one realizes samsara and nirvana as dharmakaya. It is the nature of things that there will be no regrets at the time of death if one does not fall into laziness in practice. Become a servant to the lineage of the Lord! The bliss of the Buddha will arise in you, he said. Then, the Lord asked: If that is the case, then doubt is the enemy of the Dharma. How should the measure of faith in all Dharmas be taken? The teacher said: If you have not subdued your afflictions, believe that subduing enemies and many external enemies is meaningless and only makes your own mind suffer. If you do not cultivate virtuous deeds of Dharma practice, believe that even if you take care of your loving relatives for a lifetime, they will not be able to help you at the time of death. If you do not seize the reliable foundation of the Buddha, believe that seizing worldly gain and fame will only throw you back into samsara. If you do not abide in the immutable fortress, believe that even if you build a good castle of earth and stone, you will have to leave it behind. If you do not accumulate the two accumulations, believe that even if you accumulate wealth, you will not be able to use it after death. If you do not rely on the nectar of the nature of things, believe that even if you eat nine delicious foods, they will turn into impurity. If you do not attain the unborn dharmakaya, believe that even if you cherish the aggregate of flesh and blood with self-grasping, the owners of the elements will take it away. If you do not associate with skillful means and wisdom, believe that even if you associate with thousands of like-minded friends, you will quickly separate and leave. If you do not encounter the inexpressible truth, believe that even if fame spreads throughout the three thousand worlds, it is a deceiving demon. If you do not have autonomy over your own mind,
