Towards gods and lamas, maintain shame and embarrassment; establish the measure of patience within yourself; do not harm others; whatever conduct you engage in, transform body and speech into Dharma, without straying from meaning; always do not count others' faults, but let your own faults leave the country; appropriately teach both provisional and definitive meanings, so that faithful ones enter the Dharma; regard the death of others as abandoning for yourself, thereby cultivating caution; always do not have too many activities, but let body and mind settle into tranquility; place profound instructions in your heart and hold onto recognition; Even if life is impoverished, do not seek food and wealth through deception; if lust arises in your mind, do not be alarmed by formless obstacles; even if the king's laws are strict, do not engage in actions that harm sentient beings; since death tomorrow or the day after is uncertain, hold onto the stronghold of your own mind; seek a qualified lama and carry them on your head in the three times; since what is needed in life is unpredictable, study all five sciences; since it is the root of afflictions, no matter what qualities you have, do not become arrogant; since it is the source of happiness, always frequent solitary places; since both this life and the next are miserable, do not engage in bad household affairs; ordinary behavior changes with friends, therefore associate with virtuous ones; until realization arises through meditation, do not act harshly with coarse views; since it is the iron chain of samsara, abandon sectarianism and grasping; since you will be reproached by the wise, do not be hypocritical or quarrelsome; bad behavior starts forcefully, do not stay in the midst of ordinariness; since everything is illusory, do not rely on conditioned Dharma practices; since the Buddha is not elsewhere, settle your own mind; If you do this, it is said that you are upholding Shakya's teachings. The teacher said: If you practice Dharma sincerely from the heart, you must take the vow of protection as the basis, and rely on the Dharma; the view must be in the state of being like the sky, and all vehicles of philosophical tenets must be perfected; distinguishing like a rainbow, all Dharmas must appear clearly and without confusion in the mind; distinguishing the order like the bark of a water tree, you must guide the fortunate ones honestly; with the service like a pen, cherish the instructions; like summer flowers, be fresh and bright, and clarify with meditation; like a doctor's medicine box, hold the instructions impartially, and give them when needed; like salt, you need a measured experience; conduct like a wild yak calf being driven into a deep valley.

One should face misfortune with composure; when encountering afflictions, one should avoid them like enemies and thorns; when wisdom arises, one should cherish it like protecting one's eyes; when listening and contemplating, in order to cut through doubts, one should rely on the lama with the flexibility of a vine; if pursuing worldly affairs, one should be like a stubborn yak, not conforming to others' expressions; when integrating the four immeasurables into one's mind, one should be like a gentle sheep, equally treating all with patience; when a wise person comes to debate, one should use wisdom like a warrior's weapon, cutting through everything without obstruction; when seeking the true meaning through thought, one should tame distraction and dullness like taming a wild horse; when integrating practice into one's mind, one should abandon worldly affairs like a single person completing their adornment; if one wishes to quickly attain Buddhahood, one should constantly examine one's own mind like a new bride. The master said. Furthermore, the lord asked: It is very difficult to practice in this way. Are there people who can practice the Dharma properly? The master replied: If one practices the Dharma, there are also many who naturally possess qualities. The lord asked: What are they like? The master said: If one is cheerful and speaks gently, one has the quality of easily generating loving-kindness; if one is sensitive and has many thoughts, one has the quality of easily generating faith; if one is of noble birth and has a sense of shame, one has the quality of not turning away from the Dharma; if one has much suffering and adversity, one has the quality of easily developing faith in the Dharma; if one is honest and kind-hearted, one has the quality of overcoming adversity with patience; if one is loyal and cares for relatives, one has the quality of diligently serving the lama; if one is not interested in worldly benefits and fame, one has the quality of having no bias towards the Dharma; if one is not attached to worldly affairs, one has the quality of having less attachment to the Dharma; if one's words are consistent with their meaning, one has the quality of being in harmony with the Dharma and practitioners; if one is patient and determined, one has the quality of having good practice of the Dharma; if one is smiling and behaves properly, one has the quality of purely keeping vows with fellow practitioners; if one has little greed and behaves frankly, one has the quality of being able to decisively cut off one's own conceptual thoughts. The master said: But one must also avoid going to extremes. For example, a person who is cheerful and speaks gently may also be too cunning; a person who is sensitive
