If the mind is full of distractions, there is the fault of turning away from the Dharma; if one is of noble birth but excessively shy, there is the fault of not abandoning worldly affairs; if there is much suffering and many obstacles, there is the fault of wanting to practice the Dharma but not having the time; if one is too upright and kind-hearted, there is the fault of having little understanding of the Dharma; if one is stubborn and partial to relatives, there is the fault of not being able to sever ties with worldly affairs; if worldly affairs bring little benefit when times are bad, there is the fault of having little support for the Dharma; if one is not skilled in worldly affairs, there is the fault of not completing the Dharma; if attachment and prejudice are too strong, there is the fault of finding it difficult to abandon desire; if the meaning disappears after the words, there is the fault of harsh words leading to conflict; if one is smiling but behaves improperly, there is the fault of hypocrisy and fondness for women; if one does not pay attention to cause and effect and behaves rudely, there is the fault of not respecting Dharma practice and not fearing karmic consequences. Therefore, those who enter the Dharma gate, if they can abandon these faults and possess virtues, there will be no difficulty in practicing the Dharma. Furthermore, the sovereign asked: Is there a situation where one practices the Dharma but does not become Dharma? The teacher replied: There are many situations where one enters the Dharma gate but does not become Dharma, so one must avoid this situation. That is to say, even if one is ordained, if one's livelihood and possessions are the same as those of a householder, one is not a practitioner; even if one has given up worldly affairs, if one cannot abandon meaningless idle talk, one is not a practitioner; even if one lives in a monastery, if one's actions are the same as those of worldly people, one is not a practitioner; even if one has left one's homeland, if one cannot abandon association with worldly people, one is not a practitioner; even if one has practiced, if one cannot turn away from desire, one is not a practitioner; even if one performs various austerities, if one cannot tolerate harm from others, one is not a practitioner; even if one practices the generation stage and completion stage, if one does not keep vows, one is not a practitioner; even if one practices non-duality, if one still expects gods and demons to bring benefit or harm, one is not a practitioner; even if one enters the Mahayana, if one does not work for the benefit of sentient beings, one is not a practitioner; even if one benefits sentient beings, if one is not motivated by bodhicitta and has not abandoned selfish desires, one is not a practitioner; even if one has realized the view, if one does not fear karmic consequences, one is not a practitioner; even if one is proficient in the nine vehicles of Dharma, if one's mind is not integrated with the Dharma, one is not a practitioner; even if one constantly meditates with one-pointed concentration, if the clinging to appearances has not disappeared, one is not a practitioner; even if one possesses the three trainings, if one acts with arrogance as the goal, one is not a practitioner; whatever virtuous deeds one does, if
