Born in the central region, with complete senses and devotion to the place, likewise, not reversing the end of karma. Therefore, being born as a human, born in the central region, having complete senses, having faith in the place of the Buddha's teachings, and not reversing the end of karma, these are the five self-endowments. The Buddhas appear and teach the Dharma, the teachings abide and are followed, and compassion arises for others, these are the five other-endowments. Therefore, the Buddhas appear in the world, they teach the Dharma, the teachings abide for a long time, following the teachings, and having compassion for others, these are the five other-endowments. Thus, possessing the ten qualities of the five self-endowments and the five other-endowments is called "endowment," which can be used for practicing the Dharma. No matter which aspect is examined, whether cause, condition, or essence, obtaining these is extremely difficult. Practicing in this way will turn the mind away from samsara. Second, regarding the cause and effect of karma, there are three points: recognizing the nature of karma, distinguishing the boundaries, and the types. The first point is: Whatever wrong action directly or indirectly causes suffering is sin, that is, non-virtuous karma. There are three types: naturally negative actions, which become sins simply by being done, namely the five heinous crimes, the five near-heinous crimes, and the ten non-virtuous actions. Prohibited negative actions, which become transgressions simply by being done, namely the faults of the three vows. Worldly negative actions, which others consider sinful, namely ignorance, carelessness, disrespect, and afflictions. Whatever right action directly or indirectly causes happiness is virtue. There are three types: giving with the three circles of object, giver and gift, is virtuous karma conducive to merit; giving with the mind of renunciation, is virtuous karma conducive to liberation; knowing that the three circles are not truly existent, is virtuous karma conducive to unsurpassed liberation. That which is neither virtuous nor non-virtuous is neutral karma. Second, distinguishing the boundaries of karma has seven aspects: First, the virtue of meaning is the unconditioned reality; the non-virtue of meaning is the conditioned Dharma of samsara. Second, the virtue of nature is awareness and wisdom; the non-virtue of nature is the five poisons of affliction. Third, the virtue of essence is the emptiness of Dharma-nature; the non-virtue of essence is ignorance. Fourth, the true virtue is beyond mind; the true non-virtue is defiled by mind. Fifth, non-attention is nirvana, which is virtue; attention

is saṃsāra, which is non-virtue. 6. Virtue contaminated by subtle parts of the three poisons gives rise to the three higher realms; evil deeds completely aroused by the three poisons give rise to the three lower realms. 7. With the virtue of skillful means and wisdom, one attains non-abiding nirvāṇa; with the virtue of various skillful means and wisdom, one attains one-sided nirvāṇa. Third, the categories of karma: One, purely white karma: only virtue. Purely black karma: only non-virtue. Mixed karma: a mixture of virtue and vice. Three: The intention is white, the action is black: like killing a black man with a short spear. The intention is black, the action is white: like treating someone with respect in order to kill them. Both intention and action are white: like engaging in virtue in order to attain Buddhahood. Both are black: like killing out of hatred. With fruits experienced in this lifetime: karma whose results are experienced in this life. Experienced after birth: surely to be experienced in the next life. Experienced in other lifetimes: karma to be experienced after three lifetimes. White karma, white result: being born in a happy realm through virtuous deeds. Black karma, black result: being born in a bad realm through non-virtuous deeds. White karma, black result: like an ugly, suffering person. Black karma, white result: like the elephant king Rabten. The propelling karma is virtuous, and the completing karma is also virtuous: being born as a god. The propelling karma is virtuous, and the completing karma is non-virtuous: like a poor person. The propelling karma is non-virtuous, and the completing karma is also non-virtuous: like a suffering being born as an animal. The propelling karma is non-virtuous, and the completing karma is virtuous karma: like a wealthy nāga. Exists. Non-virtue. The karma I have done, others experiencing suffering, will not ripen. Virtue and non-virtue. The karma done by others will not ripen for me. Myself. Karma not done will not be encountered. My own virtuous and non-virtuous. Karma done will not be wasted. Virtuous and non-virtuous karma. Black and white karma will not be confused. Therefore. From the most subtle point. For non-virtue and virtue. One should adopt and abandon. Third, meditating on impermanence has three aspects: After being born, one is certain to die. That is the nature of impermanence. Like a person struck by an arrow in a vital spot. It is also uncertain when one will die. That is the characteristic of impermanence. Like dew on the tip of grass. In any case, one cannot avoid death.
