First, identifying the refuge: The Buddha is the indivisible unity of the five bodies, inseparable from one and many; the Dharma is the fruit, the Vajrayana; it is the common refuge of tantra; it is prophesied and wonderful; the three trainings can be taught anywhere; it mainly focuses on the Dharma of tantra; the Sangha is the true meaning of the Sangha, where non-virtue naturally does not reside. Second, the individual who takes refuge: is the tantric vidyadhara yogi, endowed with the three vows. Third, the way to take refuge: one's own and others' body, speech, and mind, are inseparable from the Three Jewels, and one takes refuge with the inseparability of the object and the subject. Relying on these supreme refuges, the vows of tantra arise, which are obtained at the time of empowerment; through practicing the two stages of the path, one or two lifetimes, or three, or five, one becomes a Buddha. Second, the Ati refuge has three aspects: First, identifying the Three Jewels: Awareness abiding in the four bodies is the Buddha Jewel; it is inseparable from emptiness; the awareness of that awareness is the Dharma Jewel, which is the particularly wonderful Ati Yoga, the Dharma of definitive meaning; in its nature, sin is not established, and its essence abides in unpolluted virtue, which is the true meaning of the Sangha. Second, identifying the individual who takes refuge: is the supreme individual, the most excellent Ati yogi. Third, there are three ways to take refuge: knowing that the Three Jewels are established in one's own mind is the refuge of seeking meaning; realizing that there are no Three Jewels apart from one's own mind is the refuge of eliminating others; the nature of mind itself is the nature of the Three Jewels, free from one and many, not abiding in any extreme, realizing the non-duality of the two graspers, self-liberation, is the true supreme refuge. Therefore, the one who practices and speaks as the Buddha said is the Lama; the one who practices as he said is the disciple; the one who provides the conditions for it is the patron; where such a thing exists, there exists the Buddha's teaching. Second, purifying obscurations with the Hundred Syllable Mantra: Purifying the three kinds of karma, white, red, and black, through recitation, offering, practice, and confession. As it is said, first generate the supreme bodhicitta, then visualize oneself as the yidam deity, in its heart is the seed syllable

On your own brow, visualize a moon disc. In the center of the moon disc, visualize the syllable (ཧཱུྃ,hūṃ, हूं,Hūṃ), surrounded by white, red, and black Hundred Syllable Mantras. Then recite: Oṃ Vajrasattva samaya mānupālaya, Vajrasattva tvenopatiṣṭha, Dṛḍho me bhava, Sutoṣyo me bhava, Supoṣyo me bhava, Anurakto me bhava, Sarva siddhiṃ me prayaccha, Sarva karma suca me cittam, Śreyaṃ kuru hūṃ, Ha ha ha ha ho, Bhagavan sarva tathāgata vajra mā me muñca, Vajrī bhava, Mahāsamayasattva ā. By reciting the Hundred Syllable Mantra in this way, white light radiates from the white Hundred Syllable Mantra, offering to the body of the Sugatas, purifying the karmic obscurations of the body of oneself and all sentient beings, and fulfilling all broken vows of the body. Red light radiates from the red Hundred Syllable Mantra, offering to the speech of the Sugatas, purifying the karmic obscurations of the speech of oneself and all sentient beings, and fulfilling all broken vows of the speech. Black light radiates from the black Hundred Syllable Mantra, offering to the mind of the Sugatas, purifying the karmic obscurations of the mind of oneself and all sentient beings, and fulfilling all broken vows of the mind. Then, one's self dissolves into light and becomes a syllable, abiding in the state of unborn emptiness without any object of focus. Recite it many times at the beginning, then count and recite one hundred times or twenty-one times, etc., as much as you can. By doing so, all sins and obscurations are purified, and all broken vows are fulfilled. Third, train the mind by meditating on the law of cause and effect and the impermanence of death: Meditate on the difficulty of obtaining leisure and endowment, the law of cause and effect, impermanence, and the faults. According to this, there are four points here: First, meditate on the difficulty of obtaining leisure and endowment: The basis for achieving enlightenment is only leisure and endowment. "Leisure" means being free from the eight states of no leisure. The eight states of no leisure are: Hell beings, hungry ghosts, animals, long-lived gods, border regions, no Buddha appearing, wrong views, and being mute. That is to say, the three lower realms and the long-lived gods, which are the four non-human realms; regions where there is no Buddha's teaching; border regions where even if there is Dharma, it is not widespread; wrong views that believe there is no law of cause and effect; and the four types of people who are incomplete in their faculties, including the deaf, blind, and mute, making a total of eight. Being free from these eight faults is "leisure," which can serve as the basis for the excellent Dharma. "Endowment" means: Being born as a human,
