Even if one thinks there is no attachment to those, subtle clinging arises; even if one thinks there is no craving, there is subtle craving for things. Fourth, in order to cut off the places of error and eliminate faults, there are nine samapattis in which one ultimately abides. That is, in order to abandon the conceptual thoughts of the desire realm, there are four dhyana samapattis: without the conceptual thoughts of grasper and grasped, possessing the practice of what is to be meditated on and the meditator, is the first dhyana. Without investigation and analysis, experiencing the taste of the samadhi of joy, possessing clinging, is the second dhyana. Without the mind wavering, possessing exhalation and inhalation, is the third dhyana. Separated from all conceptual thoughts, the clarity and emptiness are not interrupted, is the fourth dhyana. In order to abandon the conceptual thoughts of the form realm, there are four formless samapattis: thinking that all dharmas are like the sky, and abiding in that, is infinite space. Thinking that consciousness is infinite and without direction, and abiding in that, is infinite consciousness. It is neither the clarity of consciousness nor the absence of consciousness; thinking that it cannot be measured by the mind, and abiding in that, is neither existence nor non-existence. Thinking that the mind is not established in any essence, it is non-existent and empty, and placing the mind in that, is the sphere of nothingness. These are measured by conceptual thought, and attachment arises, and there is a slight stain of mental afflictions; all of these are samapattis that prevent abiding in non-conceptualization, the six aggregates entering into objects cease inwardly, the movement of wind and mind is cut off, and abiding in samadhi for as long as it lasts is the ultimate samadhi of tranquility. Nourishing it with wisdom and abiding in it is individual analysis cessation. Where one's nature tends to go is where it goes, is non-analysis cessation. This is the undefinable of ultimate truth; thus, among the nine samapattis, the four dhyana samapattis are tranquility that generates higher vision, which are the samadhis of the four dhyanas, in accordance with nature, and are the best among worldly samadhis. The four formless samapattis are the places of error of samadhi. The four cessation samapattis are the Shravakas.

These are the samādhis of the four grounds. By recognizing them in this way, one can distinguish the differences in samādhi, and deviations and errors will not occur in one's own practice. By cutting off each error and doubt in this way and practicing without fault, then in meditative equipoise, it will remain clear and bright in such a way with bliss, clarity, and non-conceptuality. In post-meditation, appearances will arise clearly and brightly like dreams and illusions. One understands the truth of cause and effect, the vessel of merit is filled, and one obtains the warmth of samādhi, thereby perfecting the path of accumulation and reaching the ground of adhimukti. By meditating on this for a long time, one will directly see the meaning of self-luminousness without an object that one has within oneself, and recognizing oneself is the path of seeing. Appearances, awareness, and emptiness, the three, are clear without an object. One directly sees the meaning of the uncontaminated nature of reality, the obscurations of afflictions are eradicated from the root, and realizing the emptiness of cause and effect, saṃsāra is empty of self-nature, this is the first ground, the joyous ground. Meditative equipoise is equal to buddhahood, and post-meditation arises like an illusion. By cultivating this with familiarity and stability, all dualistic dharmas dissolve into non-duality. By recognizing one's own appearances as one's own nature, appearances and mind merge into one. Emptiness arises as cause and effect, and dependent origination becomes manifest. In meditative equipoise, all dharmas are clear as the essence of objectless awareness. In post-meditation, there is a slight object of appearance, which is the path of cultivation. By continuing this practice, for all of saṃsāra and nirvāṇa, there is no duality of arising and ceasing, unmixed and complete. Objectless self-luminosity becomes manifest, and cognitive obscurations are completely eliminated. That moment when everything arises as wisdom is the ultimate path, the ground of buddhahood. Fourth is meditation. The conduct that demonstrates not separating from this and training skill is: practice individually, commonly, increasingly, secretly, and only truly. Thus, there are three: First, entering the starting point of the path is common conduct; in the middle, increasing it is the secret conduct of vows; finally, only truth, which is ultimate conduct. First, entering the starting point of the path is common conduct: spending one's entire life following, and following is only conduct, so conduct is extremely important. Even if one understands profound views intellectually, if conduct does not match the meaning, it is a wrong path. Even if good meditation arises, the subsequent conduct is not the same.
