As mentioned above, do not contemplate any thoughts of external ordinary illusions, the three times of past, present, and future, but rather abide naturally. Second, do not contemplate any thoughts of internal deity visualization, etc., but rather abide calmly. Third, the secret is not to contemplate any thoughts of mind-holding, deity visualization, etc., that are done in the mind, but rather let your own state be clear, bright, and relaxed, and let it calm down. In short, the body should be free from movement, speech should be free from speaking, and the mind should be free from memory and thought. That is to say, when the body calms down, it will not move; when the speech calms down, it will not want to speak; when the mind calms down, all scattered and gathered thoughts will naturally subside. If this cannot be done, repeat the process. Second, to restore it to its original state, as it is said in the 'After Death': 'The Shravaka Bodhisattva Wrathful One, with their respective views, can also restore.' Therefore, there are three: with the view of the Shravaka, to make the unstable body, speech, and mind stable; with the view of the Bodhisattva, to make the stable more stable; with the view of the Wrathful One, to liberate the stable. The first has two: the view of the essential points of the body, and the method of practicing Shamatha. First, the view of the essential points of the body is: to have the seven dharmas of Vairochana, that is, to sit in the vajra posture, to place the hands in the meditation mudra below the navel, to straighten the spine like an arrow, to press the abdomen close to the back, to bend the neck slightly, to touch the tongue to the upper palate, and to look clearly at the space in front of the tip of the nose without any contemplation. These seven points should be arranged well without any defects. If you know how to properly arrange the mechanism, meditation will naturally come to fruition. That is to say, the mind of a beginner is like a wild horse. If you want to catch a wild horse, if you chase it violently, it will be frightened and cannot be caught. Therefore, if you lure it with various methods and catch it slowly, you can catch it and drive it. Similarly, if you violently grasp this wild horse-like mind, thoughts will increase more and more, and it will create many unpleasant obstacles such as heart palpitations. Therefore, by slowly calming it down with various methods of objects, the characteristics of Shamatha will arise in the continuum. Second, there are two methods of practicing Shamatha: with signs and without signs. The first has three: holding the mind with a sign as the object.

Then (one), holding purity as deity, holding the power of wind. Each of these also has three. In short, residing in an extremely secluded place, on a comfortable cushion, based on the seven-point posture, calm the mind. First, generate bodhicitta and practice guru yoga. First, holding the mind on a conceptual object. Place a small object such as a piece of wood or a pebble in front of you. Stare intently at it with your eyes, and at the same time, do not let your mind wander to anything else, but settle clearly, brightly, and vividly on it. Do not be too forceful, like piercing with a spear, nor allow it to wander casually. Just rest it as a support for non-distraction. When vividly settled, relax slightly and rest for a while. During this time, do not let thoughts spread out, but again, without distraction, naturally rest the mind on the object. Keep the sessions short and frequent. When ending the session, do not get up abruptly, but be mindful, without losing that state, slowly integrate it with your activities and carry it into your daily life. Second, holding the mind on a bindu. Since dullness is more prevalent, in the space between the eyebrows, about an arrow's length away, visualize a white luminous bindu, about the size of your own head, and without distraction, aim your consciousness at it like a spear. Do not let it scatter to anything else, but remain focused. For those with a highly scattered mind, visualize a yellow luminous bindu at the navel center, about the size of your own fist, and without distraction, aim your consciousness at it and remain focused. For those whose minds are naturally calm, visualize a blue luminous bindu at your heart center, about the size of a pea, and do not let your consciousness wander. When the light is vivid, relax and let the mind rest naturally. Do not let thoughts interrupt, etc., proceed as before. Third, holding the mind in the heart. In the empty space of your heart within your body, visualize the essence of the union of wind and mind, a luminous bindu flickering like a medium-sized candle, blue and bright in color, warm to the touch, visualize it clearly and focus your consciousness. When the light is vivid, stop scattering, and if you are distracted, visualize the object clearly. If at this time your consciousness becomes blurred and the object is not clear, this is a sign of wind imbalance, so take nutritious food. Relax the object slightly and rest, and this will alleviate it. If depression or anxiety arises, it is because consciousness has strayed from the path. At this time, you can read the biographies and sayings of the Kagyu lineage, and the wonde
