Yes! Wake up, die lucidly! This is one of the teachings on extracting the essence. Samaya! Vow) Gya Gya Gya! Cutting the root of the mind is: Body and mind, which is more important, discern! If you say the body is more important, let him meditate. If you say the mind is more important, then ask, where did that mind that says it's important come from in the first place? Did it come from outside? Or did it come from inside? Look! If you say it came from outside: From east, south, west, north, four corners, above and below, where did it come from? From form, sound, smell, taste, touch, where did it come from? If you say it came from the internal aggregates: Skin, bones, flesh, upper and lower limbs, where did it come from? Ask earnestly like this. If you say it came from inside: Ask, from where did the heart, liver, internal organs, etc., come? If you say it came from those: Then ask, what is the nature of that knowing that arises? What color is it, like white, yellow, etc.? What is its shape, etc.? Ask. Also, where does it abide in the middle, outer, inner, or secret? Ask as before. If you say you can't find it, say: Do you have something called "mind" that is flickering? Look! Is it substantial or insubstantial? If you say it's not there: Then ask, what is the nature of the one who says it's not there? What is the nature of the mind that is happy when happy and sad when sad? Look! What is the nature of the one who is looking for your mind? If you say it's not there: Then you say that the mind you are looking for is not there. If you say looking, then ask, who is looking? If you say my mind is looking: Then say, let the mind that is looking look for itself! Let him look until he is exhausted! The answer is, it is not substantial. Flickering, without trace, cannot be grasped. If you say there is something flickering: Because it is just knowing the nature of the mind: You cannot find it by searching, you cannot grasp it by holding. From what cause did it not arise in the beginning? It is originally emptiness, without root or basis, one. There is no place from which this arises: It is originally without place, naked, one. There is no abiding place in the middle: Because the essence of the mind cannot be identified. The mind is flickering, without trace, empty. There is ultimately no place to go! Having gone here, there is no trace. There is no shape or color: Because it is insubstantial. It has transcended the limits of all things. This has not fallen into the view of nihilism or the Heshang. It is not interrupted, nor has it fallen to any side. It is not bound by desire, it abides in the nature of the Dharmakaya.

The instruction on looking is only one. Samaya! Gya Gya Gya! The introduction to calm abiding and insight is: From a state free of pride, relax and direct your gaze towards the sky. In a state where awareness and the sky are inseparable, rest naturally. That is how meditation arises naturally. If the mind wanders and does not abide, do not follow after previous thoughts, do not welcome future thoughts, and do not fabricate on the intermediate awareness. For whatever appearances arise, lay them down nakedly and rest naturally. If a distraction arises, look at what its nature is, who is the master, and where is the root. Although the master of thoughts is clear, believe that its nature and root are not established anywhere, empty and clear. Rest naturally in a state of non-grasping and rootlessness. At that time, all movements will subside, and the mind will naturally abide in one place, like an ocean undisturbed by the wind. That is called calm abiding, and it is the basis of meditation. Insight is: Like ice melting into water, for whatever appearances arise, do not judge them with thoughts that distinguish between good and bad. By resting naturally, thoughts and non-thoughts, abiding and non-abiding, whatever movements arise, meditate on them as being equally empty in self-knowing and self-illuminating clarity. No matter how movements and thoughts appear, do not engage in mental judgment, nor negate them. Just in the state of self-knowing, clear and bright, nakedly, purely, and radiantly, abide without clinging. In the state of self-luminosity, light is clear, without objects or places, openly, nakedly, and manifestly. That is insight. In that state, awareness instantly perfects everything, and calm abiding and insight are inseparable. The instruction on calm abiding and insight is only one. Samaya! Gya Gya Gya! The instruction on showing Tögal is: In the summer and autumn seasons, when the external elements are balanced and the internal body is balanced in its waxing and waning, go to a secluded hermitage, in a place free from the three hindrances. First, meditate steadily on calm abiding. Subdue awareness with three postures. Choose whichever of the three postures is comfortable. First, do the posture of the Dharmakaya, then do the posture of the Sambhogakaya, then do the posture of the Nirmanakaya. Practice with the three postures. Do not let your eyes wander to the sky with half-closed eyes.
