If you don't go according to the Dharma, you will experience suffering in hell. For example, the stories of Devadatta, Lekstar, and Kokalika are like that. Therefore, no matter whether the teachings you hear are extensive or concise, you must apply their meaning to your own mindstream and practice them. Secondly, the uncommon preliminaries for welcoming and guiding the qualities of the primordial realm, so that they may see their own face, are three: First, the method of recognizing the meaning of the ground, Trekchö, and beyond-mind in oneself, which is to distinguish between samsara and nirvana, and to recognize the meaning of Dzogchen, Mahamudra, and the three Kayas simultaneously. Second, the method of gradually guiding the practice of Mahamudra and Dzogchen, the common Trekchö, in detail. Third, the preliminaries of the profound path of Tögal, the Clear Light, to train the key points of body, speech, and mind. The first is to take common things such as wooden blocks, clay pellets, letters, the attributes of deities, and small statues as objects of the eyes and focus the mind on them. Although you try to hold the mind by thinking of them, the master who is holding it becomes the cause of distraction. When you can't stay no matter what you do, you get bored and develop the fault of not wanting to enter the path again. Therefore, in this uncommon stage, the reason for not staying in oneself is that the habits and conditions of the mind, the intentional efforts of body, speech, and mind, and the result, do not stay in oneself even for a moment, but consciousness scatters to other objects. If the thoughts that scatter in this way do not stay in their own place but scatter, then entrust the body, speech, and mind again, distinguish between samsara and nirvana, and recognize the meaning of the original, pure, beyond-mind in oneself. That is, in a remote mountain hermitage, the teacher and student gather, and after pleasing the lama with various methods, the first is to distinguish the body from samsara and nirvana: Now, for the benefit of all sentient beings, distinguish the body from samsara, and generate the mind that this body will not fall back into samsara, and then think like this in your mind: The cause of the scattering of thoughts to external objects is caused by this body of mine, moving, going, coming, sitting, and striving, the mind does not allow it to stay in itself even for a moment. Alas, this body has also taken various bodies of the six realms from beginningless time, creating

If the habits of the body are such similar causes, now if we look for the faults of this, then where will the ultimate of the body's movement reach? Where is the ultimate end? When thinking like this, when the mind wants the body to remain in its original state, without resting for even a moment, again doing the actions of hell, the actions of hungry ghosts, the actions of animals, the actions of asuras, the bodily actions of gods and humans, etc., must be understood. Also, the posture of the Buddha, the posture of peace and wrath must be understood. Finally, tired and weary, not wanting the body to move, becoming stiff and sitting like a corpse in a charnel ground. At that time, the lama should say this: Alas, fortunate one, who has the mind to seek liberation, please listen to me. Now, this state of yours, separated from bodily movement, is the body of the Buddha's incarnation. The method of exhausting effort and thought is called the pith instruction of the path. When effort and thought disappear, that is when one becomes a Buddha. Thus, distinguishing from the boundary of samsara and nirvana, the boundary of the presence or absence of effort and thought, do not be like pointing fingers in the dark, but let those skilled in recognition teach well. Speech and mind should also be recognized in the same way. Then, the method of distinguishing speech: Now, for the benefit of all sentient beings, speech and samsara are distinguished, resolving not to return, generating bodhicitta, hells emit the sound of "A tsa A na ka ya Hu de ka", hungry ghosts emit the sound of suffering from hunger and thirst, animals emit the sound of "U" and the impure sound of "Moo", asuras emit the sound of "Gyob" and "Sod", gods emit the sound of joy and happiness and pleasantness, humans emit the sound of self-cherishing and manifest attachment, the speech of the six realms must be understood, the sixty peaceful tones, the eighteen wrathful laughs, the sounds that arise must all be understood, expressing them in speech without resting, until the ability to speak disappears, like the strings of a lute breaking, stunned and stopped. At that time, distinguishing from the boundary of samsara and nirvana, the boundary of the presence or absence of speech effort, recognize the state of speechlessness well as the speech of the Buddha. Then, the method of distinguishing mind: Now, for the benefit of all sentient beings, mind and samsara
