There are three instructions for my entry: the instruction on non-conceptual calm abiding (śamatha), the instruction on non-conceptual wisdom insight (vipaśyanā), and the introduction to the practice of the inseparability of the two. The first has two parts: the necessity and the actual method of instruction. The first is that for those of sharpest intellect, it is sufficient to introduce and practice the above three methods of settling the mind in a direct manner. For those of middling or lesser intellect, if a direct method of instruction is used from the beginning, it will remain mere talk. Therefore, what we call "mind," this knowing, active, ever-remembering, and wildly thinking thing, is the basis of all saṃsāra and nirvāṇa, and is therefore named "ālaya" (藏文:ཀུན་གཞི་,梵文天城体:ālaya,梵文罗马拟音:ālaya,汉语字面意思:阿赖耶). This is also the root of all happiness and suffering, so it is crucial to first establish its nature. The mind of a beginner is like a wild, untamed horse. For example, to catch a wild horse, if you chase after it aggressively, it will be frightened and you won't be able to catch it. You need to lead it with various methods, approach it slowly, and then you can catch it and tame it. Similarly, if you try to forcefully control this wild mind, thoughts will increase, and it will create many unwanted obstacles such as wind disorders. Therefore, it is necessary to gradually calm it down with various objects of focus, so that genuine calm abiding arises in your being. Secondly, the actual method of instruction has three parts: the object of focus for calm abiding, its essence, and its divisions. The first has two parts: the object of focus for calm abiding with characteristics and the object of focus for calm abiding without characteristics. The first has five parts: focusing the mind on a small object, focusing the mind on spheres of light, focusing the mind on letters and symbols, focusing the mind on the forms of deities, and training in breath and focusing the mind. The first is to arrange the key points of the body in the vajra posture as before, and for the benefit of all sentient beings equal to space, may I attain the state of Vajradhara in this very life. For this purpose, generate the mind to practice the Mahāyāna Dharma. And in conjunction with guru yoga, know that these are the foundation of all instructions. In this state, place a small twig or pebble or other small object in front of you, and without closing your eyes, gaze intently at it, while not letting your mind wander anywhere, but fixing it firmly on that object. Sala.

Eh, place it loosely. Don't fixate on it as if holding a spear. Don't let it wander casually, but just place it gently as a support for awareness not wandering. Because it's important to distinguish good and bad in meditation, when the state of loosely abiding becomes heavy, gently loosen it and rest a little. Then meditate again in the same way. In this way, by doing short sessions with many repetitions, meditate in four sessions. When ending a session, don't stand up abruptly, but with mindfulness, don't lose that state, slowly integrate it into the four activities, and carry it onto the path. Also, don't look further than the nose. In all activities such as walking, sitting, etc., just like being cautious of a patient with a head injury, maintain the state of meditation and be mindful. For this, meditate for three days. This is one instruction point. Through it, some special qualities of intelligence will arise, and some will generate many thoughts. Whatever those are, it doesn't matter. The second is to focus the mind on the spheres of light: From then on, the body posture etc. is the same as before. The object of focus is: For those who are dull, dense, sinking, and dazed, in the space between the eyebrows, about an arrow's length away, focus on a white sphere of light, about the size of one's own head, without distraction, as if holding a spear. Don't scatter to anywhere else, but abide equally. For those who are wild, wandering, scattered, and fainting, at the navel center, focus on a yellow sphere of light, about the size of one's own fist, without distraction, and abide equally. For those whose minds naturally abide, in one's own heart, focus on a blue sphere of light, about the size of a pea, without distraction, as if holding a spear. As the clarity increases, gently relax, don't let the mind wander, but naturally abide equally, and don't let thoughts interrupt. Meditate again in the same way, do it like that. By doing short sessions with many repetitions, do as above. Meditate like this for three days. According to your own experience, let it enter into meditation. At the time of each instruction point, observe what happens. The experience reaching stability is: If awareness abides like that, and doesn't scatter to anywhere, that is reaching stability, so strive diligently until it is stable. Even if it doesn't like it and scatters, then from then on, again as before, imagine your own body as empty, like a bag inflated with air, and directly in the heart, the air and mind.
