There are two ways to let everything drop and abide in the effortless natural state: To drop everything in order to separate from the defilements of intellectual fabrication and clinging; and, if the meaning of dropping free from activity and the essential points of the interdependent body are complete, then the door of introducing the practice of the ground and ground-appearance is there, so one should abide in each posture separately. The first is: Without interruption to the above preliminaries, when the body and mind are exhausted by the power of exertion, leave the body in its natural state like a corpse in a charnel ground. Leave speech inexpressible like a lute with a broken string. Leave the mind free from memory, thought, and grasping, like a water mill cut off from water, which is the meaning of letting go. By practicing letting go in this way for one or three days, the signs of the body, speech, and mind abiding in their natural state are: the body abides without moving, the speech abides without wanting to speak, and the mind abides without engaging in worldly affairs. Repeat until it arises. The second is that there are three ways to abide separately in the letting go itself. The first is to learn the abiding posture of the Shravakas: the body sits in the lotus position, straight and upright, the eyes are lowered to the tip of the nose, the mind is focused on one point, and one abides equally without any thoughts or words. The second is to learn the abiding posture of the Bodhisattvas: the body's abiding posture is the same as before, but the eyes stare straight ahead and the mind does not move anywhere. The third is to learn the majestic posture of the Wrathful Deities: the right leg is bent and the left leg is extended. The two hands hold a curved knife and a skull cup filled with blood. Make a posture like opening the mouth and baring the fangs. The eyes gaze upwards into space. Utter sounds such as "Ha ha hi hi" in the mouth. And the mind is placed free from elaboration. By practicing abiding separately in this way for one or three days, the body, speech, and mind are each restored, so that the body, speech, and mind cannot bear to be separated from virtuous activity. Repeat until it arises. These are the preliminary practices. Secondly, striving for the essential points of the main practice, there are two ways to practice directly in experience: to practice relying on the daytime appearance, the sun or a clear object; and to practice relying on the nighttime appearance, a dark room. The first

Oh, there are three: to grasp the key points of the three doors in order to stop the conceptual thoughts of consciousness; to abandon the activities of body, speech, and mind in order to keep the meaning of non-action in the continuum; and to push the key points with the door, object, air, and consciousness in order to directly see the self-manifestation and self-face beyond the mind. The first has three: grasping the key points of the body, grasping the key points of speech, and grasping the key points of mind. The first has two: that is, the posture of the three bodies, the posture of the five bodies, and other postures. There are many differences. Here, because it is very important to grasp the key points of the body at once, the main practice is to practice with the posture of the three bodies and the posture of the practice branch or entourage of resting and constant practice. That is, in late summer and early autumn and late winter and early spring, when there are no clouds, no fog, and no water vapor, and the sky is very clear, practice with the posture of the main and entourage according to the trajectory of the sun in the early morning when the sun rises and in the late afternoon when the sun sets. First, the main posture: the posture of the Dharma body is like a lion, sitting majestically on the cushion like a lion, with two fingers clasped inward and thumbs touching each other, two soles of the feet facing forward, and the middle of the soles of the feet on the ground, the upper body is as upright as a lion, the neck is slightly raised, and the eyes are staring at the sky without blinking. Second, the posture of the Enjoyment Body is like an elephant sleeping, lying face down on the cushion, with knees and chest together, two soles of the feet facing outward, two elbows propped on the ground, two palms holding the chin, fingers on the cheeks, back straight, eyes squinting at the sky, looking motionless. Third, the posture of the Emanation Body is like a hermit squatting, on the cushion two ankles together, squatting, two hands crossed on the knees, palms covering the two elbows, spine straight, eyes half-closed looking at the void. Second, there are eight postures for the practice branch or entourage of resting and constant practice. The first is the posture of the Garuda, with two soles of the feet facing forward, body straight, and hands vajra.
