Without hesitation or doubt, resolve to practice, and have the confidence of faith. Second, the bardo of suffering at the time of death is: the period from being struck by the death-disease until the breath ceases. At that time, due to being seized by illness, the five elements become disordered, suffering from severe pain, and having strong attachment to the appearances of this life, and also because the power of the elements is exhausted, recognizing death and suffering greatly. The way it appears is that, due to the disorder of the elements, consciousness cannot remain in one place, and all appearances become blurred and confused. The signs of the elements dissolving into their respective sources are: earth dissolving into earth, the body becoming very heavy, the head unable to lift, and saying "Please lift me up." Water dissolving into water, saliva and nasal mucus flowing, and the body also becoming limp and powerless, the senses unable to sustain. Fire dissolving into fire, the mouth, nose, and tongue becoming dry, wanting to speak but unable to express, the body becoming cold from the edges, and the luster and radiance disappearing. Wind dissolving into wind, breathing becoming difficult, drawing in from the mouth and nose, repeatedly gasping, and finally dying with a "ha" sound. Thus, it is also said in the tantra: "At that time, the elements dissolve into their respective sources, earth dissolves into earth, the body becomes heavy, water dissolves into water, nasal mucus flows, fire dissolves into fire, the mouth and nose become dry, wind dissolves into wind, breathing becomes difficult, at this time death is certain." Thus it is said. The instruction is: it is said in the tantra: "The guru's oral instructions for practice, remember them clearly, if you cannot remember them clearly, then the guru or vajra brother, with the same samaya, should also cause you to remember them clearly." Thus it is said, therefore, at this time, completely cut off attachment to worldly appearances, attachment and clinging, cut off the deluded talk of this life, eliminate the five poisons such as attachment and aversion, if your own guru is present, request instructions from the guru, if not, then by a friend who has not broken their samaya, cause these instructions to be remembered clearly. The key point of this is: it is said in the tantra: "Adjust the body into the lion's posture, and also insert awareness into the eyes, in space, rest serenely, in that instant you will be liberated." Thus it is said, therefore, do not be attached to the enjoyments of this life, give away whatever possessions you have, perform a tsokhor, prepare a bed in a place where you can see the sky, lay the right side of the body on the ground, turn the head to the north, insert awareness into the eyes, direct the eyes to space, and in the empty and clear state of non-duality of awareness and emptiness, rest serenely.

At that very moment, one is liberated into the manifest emptiness of the upward path. The third is the bardo of the luminous nature of reality: from the cessation of the inner breath until the appearance of the luminous vision. Because the wind dissolves into consciousness, the inner breath ceases. Because consciousness dissolves into space, consciousness rides the horse of wind, and as soon as it disappears into the intermediate space, the bardo of the nature of reality appears, so it is said that space dissolves into light. The body becomes as stiff as earth and stone. The way it appears is from the tantra: The way it appears is the luminous five colors, appearing clearly in all directions. When pressed, it is soft; when lifted, it throbs. It is pleasing, bright, radiant, and blazing with glory. The silk with five colors appears from one's own heart. It also has five bindus, with the five families of fathers and mothers in clusters, appearing to fill all the realms of the world, proclaiming light, rays, and sound. As it is said, as soon as the breath ceases, the bardo of light appears, and the thought arises that there is a body of previous habits, but the substantial body does not appear; it appears as a body of light. At that time, whatever becomes the object of the senses appears as a mandala of five-colored rays of light. No matter which direction, up or down, one looks, it feels soft when pressed and throbbing when lifted, flickering and shimmering, empty and clear without inside or outside. When viewed from the inside, the outside is clear; when viewed from the outside, the inside is clear. It is very pleasing, bright, radiant, glorious, and radiating light, appearing vast and spacious. At that time, a single, very subtle bundle of five rays of light from one's own heart appears connected to those lights. At that time, blue, white, yellow, and red lights appear stacked like stretched silk. On top of these, five clear and shimmering bindus, like overturned mirrors, also appear. This is the secret path of Vajrasattva, and by looking at it, the clusters of the five families, the fathers, the mothers, the heroes, and the heroines, immeasurable, with halos of five lights, holding the aspects of fathers and mothers, all appearances appear as body and field, naturally abiding in meditation. The instruction at this time is: From the tantra: Sound, light, and rays, etc., believe firmly in yourself. As it is said, sound, light, and rays, and body, etc., sound, light, and rays.
