It is the place of dwelling. The first part is divided into two points: how to generate the experience and realization of Vipassanā through the three essentials of body, speech, and mind, and how to recognize it after it arises. The first point, from our own tradition: Thus abiding in reality, immovable like the king of mountains, the essential of the body; this refers to the body abiding immovably in the vajra posture. Without inside or outside, like the ocean, the essential of speech; this refers to the eyes not moving even a fraction. Without clarity or obscurity, the essential of the mind of awareness; this refers to thoughts naturally abiding in the nature of reality. By doing so, for those of superior faculties, they can know the truth, abide in their nature, directly determine, benefit the mind, grasp with mindfulness, and manifest without arising of discursive thoughts. And so on. Sometimes, abide like the clear, cloudless sky; abide like a waterless self-grinding mill; abide like a person who has completed their work. For those of intermediate faculties, if they do not know the truth, they cannot distinguish right from wrong; if they do not abide in their nature, awareness will be diverted by external conditions; if they cannot directly determine, they will follow after objects; if they cannot benefit the mind, they will be no different from ordinary people; if mindfulness cannot grasp, they will fall into the five poisons and three poisons; if non-thought does not arise, afflictions will manifest on their own; if they do not manifest, they will become the seed of samsara, so it is very important to determine right from wrong. Sometimes, struggle like an untamed wild horse; be noble like the queen of a king; be precious like a wish-fulfilling jewel. For those of inferior faculties, regarding knowing the truth, examine whether they have conviction or not; regarding abiding in their nature, examine whether there is benefit or harm; regarding direct determination, examine whether they will fall into the five poisons or not; regarding benefiting the mind, examine whether the foundation is stable or not; regarding mindfulness being able to grasp, examine whether they can naturally liberate or not; regarding the arising of non-thought, examine whether clarity arises or not; regarding being able to manifest, examine whether there is a master present or not. When observing, analyzing, and cultivating in this way, the elaborations of the mind's acceptance and rejection, good and evil, taking and abandoning, etc., are pacified, and the wisdom of simultaneous arising of clarity and emptiness abides in the state of primordial purity. As it is said, by combining the three essentials of body, speech, and mind with the three faculties of superior, intermediate, and inferior and practicing, the three experiences of Vipassanā will arise: From the state of cessation of discursive thoughts, naked awareness arises, clear and unceasing; self-knowing and self-illuminating, vivid and clear; in this, there is no object or subject, no object of meditation or meditator, therefore there is no discursive thought; in this, there is no effort, it is natural.

Remaining in that is happiness. Next is the realization of vipassanā: Wherever the experience of object and subject gradually purifies, whatever arises as a fresh instant manifests as self-awareness without an object. Thereupon, the three—bliss, clarity, and non-conceptuality—of the realization of vipassanā arise: Clarity because the innate manifests without an object; non-conceptuality because there is no concept of clarifier and clarified; bliss because awareness and emptiness are inseparable. Second, introducing the awakened one has four aspects: distinguishing similarities and errors and identifying them, introducing without error, generating confidence through scripture, and gaining stability through familiarity. First: The introduction of experience must be based on the instantaneous nature of awareness. Therefore, introducing it to someone who has not given rise to realization, introducing it prematurely to someone in whom it has arisen weakly, and to those who have arisen but have not truly been introduced, will respectively result in meaninglessness, remaining in the realm of understanding, and the inability to resolve doubts about the nature of reality. Therefore, it is crucial to draw a line. The rough determination at the time of realization, and the determination in the mind of the subtle limits of the moment in samadhi, are two confusions. Recognizing thoughts and naturally going into a state of non-thought is experience, and the moment when thoughts are grasped by memory and arise beyond the mind without needing to abide is realization, these two are confused. Understanding thoughts as free from elaboration, the one who understands realization arises and is without object, and the self-clarity that arises in the nature of the moment exhausts the objects of samsara and nirvana, these two are very confused. From here, the dangerous pass of distinction must be cleared: This mind, the basis of delusion, with its grasping and clinging, in which thoughts arise voluminously, and this awareness, which has the characteristic of empty clarity, these two must be distinguished. Second, introducing without error: When looking at the mind, even if there are thoughts, they are not succumbed to, but remain naturally, possessing clarity and bliss, this is śamatha. This is not the main practice of Dzogchen meditation, but a preliminary, a proximate cause, a special feature. Attachment to this is a wrong path. Seeing all the thoughts of whatever arises, and at that moment seeing the nature of arising, ceasing, and abiding free, this is vipassanā. When the observer looks at himself, there is nothing to say exists, empty of form and shape. There is nothing to say does not exist, arising vividly. The seeing of what has not been seen, the experiencing of what has not been experienced, a nature that is beyond identification, this is the actual practice to be undertaken.
