The nature itself, from the very beginning, is free from the limitations of arising, ceasing, and abiding, and is spontaneously accomplished. This is the miraculous foot of the mind. Realizing that there are no characteristics of object and subject, or of what is to be meditated upon and the meditator, is the perfect foot of wisdom's miracle. Then, the thirteenth point is to elevate to freedom from elaboration, as it is said: Master Garab Dorje said: When practicing Trekchö, the pure emptiness, although it is called meditation, there is nothing to meditate on. Just leave this ordinary consciousness in its natural state. If it doesn't stay still and wanders in all directions, then gently release it and let it be in its own state. As it is said, no matter what kind of thoughts arise, maintain them without attachment or aversion, acceptance or rejection, without fabrication or control. For example, no matter what kind of waves arise in the ocean, everyone understands that the ocean itself is the wave, and the wave itself is the ocean. Similarly, when the mind abides in emptiness, it is also meditation. When it doesn't abide and manifests in various ways, it is also meditation. All activities of going, coming, staying, and moving are meditation, but there is nothing to do except to let it rest in its natural state. As the great teacher Prahevajra said: The yogi who knows the nature of emptiness, whatever he does is within the realm of meditation. The fruit of Dzogchen is perfected on the ground. As it is said, please practice in this way. At this time, an experience of clarity and emptiness like the center of the sky arises. One is not aware of subtle thoughts, only gross ones. At that time, the mind that abides in clarity and emptiness is artificial, so it should not be considered meditation. Even when various things manifest, the shimmering nature of awareness is rigpa, so one must establish the foundation of meditation there. One should not establish the foundation of meditation in the state of clear, empty bliss, but rather in its radiance, which is like a reflection of the moon in water, free from all elaborations. By establishing the foundation of meditation there, one cuts off the wrong path of the desire realm, which is attachment to pleasure. In the realm of the six senses, like a magical illusion, free from all elaborations and clear, if one establishes the foundation of meditation there, one cuts off the wrong path of the form realm. The wrong path is that if one establishes the foundation of meditation in the state of clear, empty bliss, it is the wrong path of the first dhyana. If one establishes the foundation of meditation in the state of clear and vivid thoughts, it is the wrong path of the second dhyana. Merely being free from attachment to pleasure does not cut off the wrong path, so one enters the third dhyana. Empty

Furthermore, by abiding in the unestablished nature, one deviates into the fourth dhyana. If one thinks that by meditating on the inseparability of emptiness, one can cut off the wrong path, from where can one cut it off? Infinite space is such that no form is established in it. Even if meditation becomes manifest, it does not transcend the realm of samsara. Nowadays, many great meditators seem to enjoy residing in this state. This is called meditating with a defiled mind. For example, by meditating on a skeleton, the body appears as a skeleton. In the past, in Yangpachen, an old woman meditated on a tiger, and when it manifested, the whole city was emptied. The result is the same. If one meditates without error and it manifests, one can combine the heaviest afflictions with wisdom, so it is the path of joining. Knowing one's own mind as clear and empty, and in an unwavering state, realizing that all phenomena have not moved from its nature, this is warmth. Being free from all conceptual thoughts and naturally pacified, originally samsara and nirvana being pure in their own place, and seeing the essence of no characteristics, this is the peak. The five powers are: generating correct understanding of the meaning of reality is the power of faith. In that, the mind abiding without grasping at characteristics is the power of mindfulness. In that, the co-emergent nature abiding unceasingly without wavering in the intention of the Dharmakaya is the power of samadhi. In that, being free from all rejection and acceptance, coming and going, abiding like a stream of water is the power of diligence. Its nature being free from all fabrication, deciding in ordinary awareness is the power of wisdom. Then, looking at the self-essence of the fourteenth, at this time, when awareness is without scattering and abides empty and clear, it is not considered meditation to abide in non-conceptuality. At this time, one must cultivate the naked, clear light of self-awareness without distraction. When awareness arises like rain on objects, it is not considered meditation to look at whatever thoughts arise. As Padma Vajra said, "Constantly meditating on conceptual thoughts is the cause of unhappy samsara." Therefore, at this time, one must cultivate the naked, clear awareness without distraction. Without understanding this key point of meditation, alternately looking at abiding and moving, and the nature of meditation
