Although that is so, the distinctions between mind and rigpa are as follows: As it is said in the Great Perfection Essential Tantra, "Vast Expanse of Space": "All phenomena of samsara depend on mind; the afflictions of mind are the time of samsara. All phenomena of transcendence depend on rigpa; when rigpa is placed in its own ground, Buddhahood arises spontaneously." Therefore, the nature of mind is ignorance; the nature of rigpa is Buddhahood. The nature of mind is the basis of karma and habitual tendencies; the nature of rigpa is not the basis of karma and habitual tendencies. The nature of mind is the delusion of grasping and being grasped; the nature of rigpa is the nature of being free from grasping and being grasped, and without delusion. The nature of mind is not separate from the extremes of elaboration; the nature of rigpa is separate from the extremes of elaboration. The nature of mind is the eight consciousnesses of the alaya; the nature of rigpa is beyond the eight consciousnesses of the alaya. The nature of mind is the sound of the wind-ridden; the nature of rigpa is self-luminous without wind. The nature of mind is conditioned by causes; the nature of rigpa is unconditioned, separate from causes. The nature of mind is dependent on rigpa; the nature of rigpa is not dependent on mind. The nature of mind is the three: arising, abiding, and ceasing; the nature of rigpa is unchanging. The nature of mind is the obscuration to be abandoned; the nature of rigpa is the wisdom to be attained. The nature of mind is sudden, deluded thoughts; the nature of rigpa is the Dharmakaya from the beginning. Therefore, if one considers mind to be the Buddha, then when karma and afflictions are exhausted, the result, Buddhahood, is also exhausted. Although it is a non-dual lion, as it is said in the Tantra, "Wisdom Equal to Space": "The Buddhas of the three times are separate from mind; the self-arisen essence is the Dharmakaya; that which does not arise from mind is the Buddha." And again, in that same Tantra: "To desire Buddhahood in the mind is like a widow marrying her son." When rigpa is self-luminous, the nature of sudden thoughts is called meditation, and even if one meditates on the essence, looking at it will not cause wisdom to arise. The nature of sudden thoughts is impermanent, that is its own characteristic. Therefore, without clinging to it, the movement naturally subsides and is naturally purified. The nature of rigpa of an individual, nakedly clear, pristine, and stainless, is the Dharmakaya itself.

With wisdom, Conceptual thoughts neither add nor subtract. For example, however clouds and mists may arise from the sky, they arise from the sky itself, and when they dissolve, they vanish into the expanse of the sky itself. Although the essence of the sky itself has no arising or ceasing, its potency is unceasing, like the arising of clouds and mists. As the King of Power, Padmasambhava, said: Although the essence of the sky does not move, the three, clouds, mists, and vapors, arise from the potency of the sky, and dissolve into the expanse of the sky. Therefore, although the essence of awareness of a yogi does not move, however conceptual thoughts, movements, and memories may arise from the unceasing potency, without moving the essence of awareness, in the state of transparency, nakedness, and clarity, if one thinks that the essence of conceptual thought arises as the Dharmakaya, it is not so. The movement of conceptual thought is exhausted in a way that does not need to be removed, eliminated, or stopped. As the wind of self-arisen wisdom naturally increases in strength, that self-aware, transparent, naked, and clear state is indeed enlightenment in the essence of the four Kayas and five wisdoms. If one fails to distinguish between mind and awareness in this way, the fault is as stated in the Dzogchen Rinchen Chudig, the tantra that gathers the intent of all Buddhas: If the alaya and Dharmakaya are not distinguished, it is like mixing water and milk; if the true nature is not determined, it is like a feather carried by the wind; if mind and awareness are not distinguished, it is like mixing molasses and honey; if ignorance and wisdom are not distinguished, it is like mixing gold and brass; if mind and habitual tendencies are not distinguished, it is like mixing poison and medicine. As it is said, if one does not discern these intents, the gurus of today who say that the intent, view, meditation, conduct, and result of all vehicles are the same and without difference, these people have not even slightly clarified the key points of view, meditation, conduct, and result, and are inherently ignorant, herding all vehicles together. Does this not contradict the words of the three teachers? Here, the eightfold noble path without inversion is: Understanding all phenomena of samsara and nirvana as unspeakable, unthinkable, and inexpressible, like the expanse of a clear sky, is right view; the self-form of the great luminosity of wisdom, the non-conceptual superior seeing, arising from within, is right realization; in that nature, liberation and delusion are inherently separate, is
