Good! If you look at it that way, you will surely understand what appears in your own mind. Or, if you don't follow after discursive thoughts, you will go to self-peace, and you will understand that liberation is in your own mind. If discursive thought is not mind, then when the mind is left in the state of space, doing nothing, no discursive thoughts will arise. If it is mind, then at that time realization must arise, but it does not. Likewise, look at all the appearances and thoughts that are about to arise and be remembered, and even if the outer container world is an appearance, see if it abides in the way your own mind appears. Even though the inner sentient beings are made of the five poisons, see if they are made by your own mind. In particular, examine thoroughly whether your own clinging to the five senses is also made by your own mind, so that it will be pacified together on the samadhi. After that, regarding all the appearances of self and other that arise, know that it is just the way your own mind appears, as if cutting them off. If you still don't examine thoroughly, then this is the method of destroying thoughts with thoughts. Meditate on one that is even bigger than any discursive thought that is difficult to subdue, so that it will overwhelm the other and disappear. Meditating there is because it is a temporary remedy by your own mind, so the habitual clinging is easy to dissolve because it is short-lived. It is not going elsewhere, but your own mind is liberated, so you will thoroughly understand that the place of origin and the maker of all discursive thoughts is your own mind. In the tantra it is said: "If you do not recognize delusion as mind, then you will never realize the meaning of reality, therefore examine the ultimate nature of the mind of deluded appearances with view." Therefore, until you have determined that appearances are rootless and baseless in your mind, maintain the reality with view and examine thoroughly. Once you have thoroughly determined it, no matter how many discursive thoughts arise later, just like a crow flying from a ship returns to the ship, discursive thoughts arise in the mind and thoughts appear in their own form, but since they are not separate from the mind, they will return to the mind. In this way, if you thoroughly investigate that discursive thoughts are the play of the mind, then you will understand that the thoughts of ignorance and delusion, whether good or bad, are mind. Therefore, what you need to do is to recognize ignorance as the appearance of wisdom in your mind, just like recognizing a familiar person no matter where you meet them later without having to examine them. You don't need to examine discursive thoughts.

Without needing to, one will recognize it in one's own mind. The tantra says, "If appearances are not known as mind, one errs in samsara; if one's own mind is not known as Buddha, one is obscured by nirvana." Therefore, if one does not recognize thoughts as one's own mind, blocking thoughts will not block them, abandoning will not abandon them, grasping will not grasp them, and even if one meditates for eons, one will not attain Buddhahood. Samsara and nirvana, the two, arise from the difference in the equal ground of all; the arising of appearances comes from whether or not the mind is recognized. To see appearances as other than mind is delusion. Here, knowing that appearances are one's own mind is the wisdom of awareness. The tantra says, "Self-awareness, other-awareness, all is awareness." Therefore, just knowing all appearances as mind without grasping is to realize appearances and mind as the nature of reality; to introduce its suchness on oneself, the tantra says, "Thoughts are the self-nature of mind; apart from mind, there is nothing of existence." Therefore, the unceasing arising of one's own mind, unborn and empty, causes all existence to arise. When one grasps oneself as real, the appearances of the five poisons arise. From attachment and aversion to this, the light forms the body of the five elements. From clinging to this, the five colors of the channels and doors arise from the five pure essences. Based on this, although the essence of awareness is only one, through the light of the channels, the thoughts of the five doors arise: form, sound, smell, taste, and touch. The light of desire radiates outward, and the stirring of appearances causes sentient beings to arise. By clinging to this, appearances with affirmation and negation spread. If one does not recognize these as one's own mind and grasps them as established elsewhere, then one becomes the object to be grasped and wanders in samsara. The tantra says, "Apart from mind, there is nothing of appearance." Therefore, introduce all these appearances as the objects of one's own mind. Then, since all appearances abide in mind, how does that mind, the master of all, abide? Looking at oneself, where did it first come from? Where does the form and color abide in the middle? Looking to see where it goes in the end, does it abide? One sees and finds nothing. It is not that it exists but is not seen, but because the mind is unborn, one cannot find the place from which this rootless ground arises. Because it is without abiding, form and color are not established in any of the ten directions. Because it is without cessation, there is nowhere to go. It is free from the three: arising, abiding, and ceasing.
