O! Furthermore, to avert obstacles, one averts them with the wheels and the letters of the elements. Having written the wheels on Chinese paper or palm leaves, the wind wheel is green with four petals, complete with a circumference and a center. On the petals and the center, one places five Yaṃs On the outer circumference, one places the vowel letters. The fire wheel is red, with petals and so on like the above, and one places five Raṃs The circumference is like the above. Similarly, on the yellow earth wheel, one places five Laṃs On the white water wheel, one places five Khaṃs On the blue sky, one places Ai Au Having written the wheels in this way, one generates those wheels as deities of the nature of the elements, similar to their respective colors. One offers five offerings to them, confesses sins, and prays for the desired purpose. One recites each of their letters as many times as the person's age and dissolves them into the deity's chakra. Then, one places those wheels in a pair of bowls placed mouth to mouth, binds them crosswise with five-colored threads, and places them inside a dough effigy. One makes an effigy one cubit long with wood materials, fire materials, water materials, earth materials, and the breath of various kinds of sentient beings—horses, elephants, buffaloes, etc.—mixed with roasted barley flour. In the sense organs—Raṃ (藏文:རཾ,梵文天城体:रं,梵文罗马拟音:raṃ,汉语字面意思:Raṃ) in the eyes, Yaṃ (藏文:ཡཾ,梵文天城体:यं,梵文罗马拟音:yaṃ,汉语字面意思:Yaṃ) in the ears, Khaṃ and Laṃ (藏文:ཁཾ་དང་ལཾ,梵文天城体:खं,लं,梵文罗马拟音:khaṃ,laṃ,汉语字面意思:Khaṃ, Laṃ) in the tongue, and E (藏文:ཨེ,梵文天城体:ए,梵文罗马拟音:e,汉语字面意思:E) in the heart of the body—one places the five letters and sets them down. The substances for ransoming the obstructing spirits are: one makes them from red earth, or effigies made of roasted barley flour transformed with colors, equal to the number of finger-widths of the person to be propitiated, and in colors of black—for demons and dogs, red—for Tsen and Nagas, yellow—for Gnyen and Teurang, white—for kings and demons, green—for local deities and earth spirits, and mottled—made of white, red, yellow earths, etc., various obstructing spirits. In each of these, one mixes their respective dirt, pieces of clothing, snot, saliva, tears, hair, and nails with ground jewels and makes the effigies. One adorns them with woolen yarn and various kinds of silk. One adorns them with many different kinds of ill-omened bird feathers—owls, etc. For each of these, one places a torma that matches the color of the torma—black, etc.—and a piece of roasted barley flour equal to the age, and blesses them with the six-syllable mantra and the six mudras.
