Now, the essence of purity in practice, which is to hold the mind with the self-purification of eye consciousness, is called the Great Powerful One of Fire, which is feeling. The bright firewood of fire is to absorb the wind into it, so by meditating on the four stacked "A" syllables, considering feeling as one's own nature, one purifies fire. The fifth is: placing awareness on the yellow syllable in the navel or space, all objects of grasping dissolve into it, and after the five sense doors are purified in their own nature, abiding in non-discrimination and meditating. The city of earth is the body with the five sense doors, and water is meditating on the five stacked "A" syllables, thus destroying the clinging to the body. This is what is said in coded language in the scriptures. It purifies earth. Meditating on the five "A" syllables taught here causes the elements to become self-pure. By reason of the location of the channels, the chakras, and the key points of sound, meditate on the four chakras, and meditate by gathering the wind and mind there. And it is evident that one should abide in unborn, free from elaboration. In this context, རཾ་ (Tibetan, ram, Devanagari, ram, Romanized Sanskrit, seed syllable of fire), ཡཾ་ (Tibetan, yam, Devanagari, yam, Romanized Sanskrit, seed syllable of wind), ཁཾ་ (Tibetan, kham, Devanagari, kham, Romanized Sanskrit, seed syllable of space), the three are the seed syllables of wind, fire, and water. Therefore, when meditating in this way, if the elements are disturbed and one feels unwell, the so-called abiding in the three places refers to: if the body feels heavy, dull, and lethargic, then visualize the ཡཾ་ (Tibetan, yam, Devanagari, yam, Romanized Sanskrit, seed syllable of wind) of the crown chakra as bluish-black, put the wind and conceptual thoughts into it, and meditate on it soaring into the sky. Immediately, awareness will become clear and flow. If the body's water element is excessively disturbed, feeling cold and trembling, then in the chakra where the senses gather, visualize རཾ་ (Tibetan, ram, Devanagari, ram, Romanized Sanskrit, seed syllable of fire) as red and blazing, and forcefully control the wind. Meditate on the fire arising from the "ha" sound at the tri-junction spreading throughout the body, and it will dispel the cold. If one feels hot, excited, and has increased bile due to the fault of fire, then in the heart or stomach, visualize ཁཾ་ (Tibetan, kham, Devanagari, kham, Romanized Sanskrit, seed syllable of space) as white and cool like ice water, and draw in and exhale the wind with the sound of "sid". This will pacify the heat. Although not mentioned here, if the wind causes awareness to wander, rush upwards, and symptoms like heart wind arise, then in the navel, visualize ལཾ་ (Tibetan, lam, Devanagari, lam, Romanized Sanskrit, seed syllable of earth) as golden in color and extremely heavy, and forcefully contract the lower gate, directing the wind and mind downwards, and it will undoubtedly be helpful. Here, the main topic is eliminating obstacles. Many branches, fragments, etc., are in other places. The lamp that cuts elaboration, the fifth part of the instruction on the self-purification of the five elements.

Then, one should understand the differences between the common Dharma and the view, meditation, and conduct of the Great Perfection of Naturalness. It should be shown like opening the eyes to what is hidden. First, the common Dharma should be shown. First, suppressing appearances with the instruction of conduct without attachment is, from the common Dharma: No matter who practices in what way, they should abandon the ten non-virtuous actions of body, speech, and mind, and practice without violating the precepts and vows. And by not clinging to everything, everything they do is transformed into Dharma and practiced. In this way, one obtains the temporary status of gods and humans and the ultimate state of enlightenment. Second, suppressing the mind of memory with the instruction of meditation without focus is, here, the meditation that is in accordance with the common Dharma is that the person who wants to practice it should abandon all worldly affairs in a secluded place and practice the instructions of the lama. This is also the same as what was taught before, but here one should meditate by grasping the mind. First, the body posture should be as before, and the mind should grasp the movement of thoughts. Direct the gaze to the tip of the nose, and at first, do not let the thoughts separate. If in a quiet place, meditate on one (Tibetan: ཧཱུྃ, Sanskrit Devanagari: हूँ, Sanskrit Romanization: hūṃ, Chinese literal meaning: Hum) inside the body, and release it from the crown of the head to the soles of the feet and all places, making the body light and clear, and hold the mind. Then, penetrate and release all the obstructive and heavy objects of the external earth, stones, mountains, and rocks, making them light and clear. Then, imagine that all appearances have become countless forms of (Tibetan: ཧཱུྃ, Sanskrit Devanagari: हूँ, Sanskrit Romanization: hūṃ, Chinese literal meaning: Hum), and that the inside and outside of the body are all shimmering like mirages, and hold the mind. Then, like searching for softness and paving the way, focus on (Tibetan: ཧཱུྃ, Sanskrit Devanagari: हूँ, Sanskrit Romanization: hūṃ, Chinese literal meaning: Hum) on a twig or pebble in front, and then gather it back. Based on this, practice in all the paths of crooked lines, watercourses, and valleys, so that when a thought is about to arise, look at the place of birth, the place of dwelling, and the place of going of that thought, but do not find it. Place the thought in a state of self-illumination and unobstructedness, and meditate. View all subsequent consciousness as illusions or mirages. Recognize that the appearance of objects is like a dream, and that it is the mind itself, and meditate. In this way, one will be connected to Shamatha and Vipassana, and will obtain the cause of Vipassana. Having become accustomed to this, third, listen with the instruction of the view without grasping.
