Thus spoke Kyokton. It is countless. So it is said. From the Dharani of the Inexhaustible Jewel Palace: Om Rucira Mani Pravartaya Hum Phat If this is recited seven times on a rosary, it will become reciting the essence of the body, speech, and mind of all the Tathagatas hundreds of thousands of billions of times. So it is said. In the treasury of existence, whatever practice is done, protect the essence of others, protect against defilements, protect against the impurity of widows, do not talk to others, do not have internal disputes, do not let others wear your clothes, do not wash your body and dishes, do not sleep with widows, do not cut hair and nails, do not shake cushions, do not let dogs and pigs go, do not give leftover food to dogs, strictly observe silence, do not flirt with retreat attendants, cherish avoiding defilement. Do not prostrate to others except for the root guru, do not let your shadow be possessed by ghosts. If these vows are kept, then power and ability will arise. So it is said. Also, from the condensed essence of the oral instructions of Orgyen from the Guru's Mind Accomplishment, the Garland of the Heart: That is, until accomplishment is achieved, do not wear the clothes of others, it will bring defilement, practice will be distracted and decline. If food is too good, one will be controlled by afflictions, if it is too bad, the body will be weakened and one will not be able to endure hardship, therefore balance good and bad, and act with moderation. Broken vows, widows, butchers, thieves, those who have broken vows, etc., who are defiled, do not eat food from the hands of those possessed by spirits, if you eat it, practice will be delayed, and obstacles will arise that prevent you from ultimately achieving it. Do not move the mattress, until the measure of practice and vows is fulfilled, if the mattress or bed is moved, the signs of warmth will disappear, and sudden terror will arise. If you do protection for others, your power will be diminished, therefore do not do protection for others or exorcism. Do not wear dirty clothes and do not wash the body, accomplishments will disappear. If you cut hair, nails, and facial hair, the power of the mantra will be weakened, therefore do not cut them. Do not speak Dharma from the holes of the retreat room, the signs of practice will not appear. Do not make long-term promises of vows at once, demons will enter, therefore prolong them. If you mix speech with others, you will not be included in the mantra group, therefore observe silence. Secret mantras and the recitations of wrathful Vajras should be recited aloud.

Furthermore, if one's ability declines and subtle non-humans become frightened, leading to panic and fainting, one should recite quietly and silently. If one lies supine and recites with the mala on the chest, it is like pressing oneself down. In general, if the body remains upright, the channels remain upright. This causes the wind to flow upright. Because the wind and awareness are united, if the wind flows upright, then whatever object the awareness is focused on, and the necessity of being able to generate samadhi, are both present. It is crucial to be extremely careful regarding the key points of the body, such as the seven points of meditation. Do not sneeze. Do not spit or blow your nose outwards, except during times of subjugation, repulsion, aversion, or direct action. Mantras have the fault of being scattered or entering, and because it can become a suppression of speech, do not spit or blow your nose on the road. Do not sleep during the day. There are many kinds of faults in this, so in all cases, it should be abandoned. Until accomplishment is achieved, do not engage in distracting activities, and do not engage in activities that are extremely disruptive and arrogant with the three doors of body, speech, and mind. Instead, diligently exert oneself in whatever practice one is doing, and bring it to completion. Whatever good or bad signs of accomplishment or miraculous manifestations may arise, do not engage in examining whether to accept or reject them based on like or dislike. Instead, settle the mind of the yogi in its natural state and continue the practice. After asceticism and practice have been accomplished, make offerings of gratitude in stages. Even after breaking retreat, maintain the after-effects of the retreat for several days and do not wander around in villages or towns. Do not sleep with others on your own bed for three days. The objects of practice should not be seen by those who do not share the same vows. Do not show the objects of practice to others. Do not give the objects of accomplishment to others. Enjoy them yourself. From the beginning of the practice until accomplishment is achieved, no matter what happens, do not abruptly break the retreat. Because it is a demon of obstacles, recognize it and do not place it in favorable conditions. In short, a yogi who is diligent in recitation and practice should not act in any way that comes to mind. Do not eat whatever food is found. Do not wear dirty clothes, corpses, or other impure things. Do not lie down carelessly. Do not dispose of impurities in front of people or on the road. Do not engage in ascetic practices at inappropriate times, and so on. In short, it is crucial to be extremely careful in all circumstances. In general, if you want happiness, then first start with suffering such as asceticism, divide the day and night into parts, and if you place the practice on the scales, then there will be happiness.
