Also, since the key points are the same, according to the common practice, first, in order to purify the obscurations of the body and make it suitable as a vessel for the vase empowerment, and for the sake of examining external omens, the enclosure for discarding the tooth stick is smeared with a square mandala of earth, etc., or an eight-petaled lotus is drawn and a cluster of flowers is placed on it. Since materials for the tooth stick such as Aśvattha (Sanskrit Devanagari: अश्वत्थ, Sanskrit Romanization: Aśvattha, Chinese literal meaning: Bodhi tree) are not found in Tibet, a straight, moderately thin and thick tree with milky sap is used, one that is free of insects, not cracked, with the top and bottom equal, measuring twelve finger-widths, and made with three sharp edges. It is washed with fragrant water and fumigated with incense. A garland of flowers and a red thread are tied to the tip, and it is blessed with mantra. The master, facing north, shows the flower to the student's hand and gives it. The student, facing east or north, grasps the root of the tooth stick, which holds the expanse of space, and simultaneously with pulling the tooth root, visualizes vomiting out the obscurations of the body, such as having eaten meat, etc., with a strong desire to examine the omens of accomplishment. With the recitation of the mantra, the eyes look upward and without hesitation it is thrown into the enclosure in front. The examination of the omens is that if the tip falls facing east, north, west, south, up, or down, then in sequence, pacifying, increasing, magnetizing, subjugating, vidyādhara, and underground accomplishments will be achieved. It is said that if it falls outside, then accomplishment will not be obtained. Second, in order to purify the obscurations of speech and make it suitable as a vessel for the secret empowerment, and as a preliminary for examining internal omens, in order to clarify dreams, the water from a conch shell that has been blessed is given three times to drink, and the remainder is thrown backwards from the left shoulder, visualizing the purification of the impurities of speech. Third, in order to purify the obscurations of mind and make it suitable as a vessel for wisdom empowerment, and in order to prevent obstacles to dreams, five-colored threads, representing the five wisdoms, or the colors of the activity deities, the size of the body, representing the three doors of body, speech, and mind, are rolled into a triple braid. A vajra knot is tied, and it is fumigated and blessed with mantra. In order to protect against obstacles to the white and red elements, it is tied on the left arm of a man and the right arm of a woman. In order to protect against obstacles of day and night or inner and outer, it is tied in two layers, and the body is visualized as being covered in a vajra armor in the manner of melting, with the vajra touching in a crisscross fashion.

Fourth, in order to purify the obscuration of equality, to become a vessel for the fourth empowerment, and to prevent dreams from being disordered, the auspicious substance of a bunch of kusha grass is given as a mat, a single piece of cloth, and a pillow, blessed with mantras, and placed in the palms or left and right hands. This protects against evil spirits and makes good and bad dreams clear. Therefore, the disciples should also do this tonight, lie down in the lion's posture, with their heads facing the direction of the deity and the guru, and if they see it as auspicious, it is even better, and they should again generate faithful devotion to the guru and the deity. If it is seen as inauspicious, one should not be disturbed, but should pacify it by reciting mantras such as the Tsok offering and the Hundred Syllable Mantra, and especially by meditating on the meaning of selflessness to dispel it. After the four substances have been prepared, in order to prevent them from being reversed, one should generate joy by teaching the profound Dharma. After dedicating the merit, the disciples are sent back to their respective places. If the master has previously placed the preliminary deity in that place, then he should invite it here, and make offerings, etc., and perform the subsequent stages of self-generation. The vase and the preliminary empowerment of the disciples, even if relying on painted scrolls, the action itself is good, because it is said in the scriptures that if an empowerment is given to a disciple who has not undergone preliminary empowerment, it will become a root downfall. Fourth, regarding the activities of the mandala, there are two parts. First, regarding the accumulation of the basis of practice, the mandala is: for those of superior faculties, relying on painted mandalas; for those of intermediate faculties, relying on thangkas; for those of inferior faculties, it is known as powder mandalas. Nowadays, it is rare to find a master and retinue with superior faculties, and even if one deceives oneself and others with any easy practice, let alone maturing the continuum. It seems that almost all fall into the root downfall of violating the teachings, and the aftermath of creating bad examples, one should not merely follow the trend, but the continuums of the master and disciple should adapt to each other. But in general, the branches of the deity and mandala ritual should not diminish, the benefits are great and the faults are small, and one should take up whatever one is to accomplish in the first place. Therefore, for large mandalas and aspects with extensive practices, one should construct the lines and colors of the powder mandala according to their respective rituals. For those who cannot accomplish this, and for those who only perform general empowerments, one should prepare a standard thangka mandala in advance, and display it on the throne. If it is really not possible, then in this Early Translation school, painted mandalas are not prohibited either, one should not do it arbitrarily, but should use
