All actions that can give rise to misdeeds, and all non-virtuous actions of body, speech, and mind caused by these actions, as well as all transgressions that violate the vows taken, will become sinful. Therefore, all the sufferings of samsara arise from non-virtuous actions. Although there are many kinds of non-virtuous actions, if we briefly summarize the important points of what to adopt and abandon, there are ten. The Abhidharmakosha states: "From this, briefly summarized, good and non-good, as appropriate, are said to be ten paths of action." Therefore, regarding the three actions of the body, killing means: with the intention to kill, accurately killing the object to be killed, and not ceasing the intention to kill until death. Taking what is not given means: without the permission of others, robbing or stealing the property of others, etc., whatever it may be, as long as the thought of obtaining it arises in oneself. Sexual misconduct means: non-place, referring to women owned by others, relatives within seven generations, as well as prostitutes who have not been paid, those guarded by parents, kings, etc., and those guarded by vows of celibacy. Non-time, referring to those who are sick, grieving, pregnant, menstruating, and those who can never satisfy their desires, etc. Non-location, referring to stupas, temples, among many women, and uneven, hard, and rough ground that is harmful to those who walk. Non-way, referring to relying on orifices other than the genitals. These are for the situation of householders. For those who practice celibacy, whatever non-celibate conduct they engage in is sexual misconduct. Regarding the four actions of speech, lying means: changing perception with the intention to deceive, knowingly speaking untruthfully, and the other person understanding its meaning. This is not limited to verbal expression; bodily gestures can also lead to the same result. Slander means: in order to separate discordant parties, speaking divisive words, and the other person understanding its meaning. Harsh speech means: directly hearing the faults of the other person, speaking words that hurt the other person's heart, and the other person understanding its meaning. Idle talk means: not the above three, but speaking other meaningless chatter, songs, dramas, war, business, and love topics, as well as proclaiming doctrines of wrong views, etc. Regarding the mind,

Among the three karmas, covetousness is: deeply generating the thought of wanting to make others' dwellings, enjoyments, retinues, etc., one's own. Harmful intent is: deeply generating the thought of wanting to harm others, hoping that others will suffer. Wrong view is: firmly clinging to the belief that there is no truth in karma and its results, no past and future lives, no Three Jewels, etc. Thus, these ten are in terms of the completion of the path of karma. All actions similar to these ten, such as unintentionally killing due to error, should also be diligently studied to be abandoned. As it is said: "Attachment, hatred, and ignorance, the actions arising from these are unwholesome." Now, the fruits of these unwholesome actions are three: the ripened result, the result similar to the cause, and the dominating result. The first is: these unwholesome actions also vary in intensity depending on the strength of the motivation, etc., and are divided into three types: great, medium, and small. Among them, the great leads to rebirth in hell, the medium leads to rebirth as a hungry ghost, and the small leads to rebirth as an animal. One will experience the sufferings previously described. The second, the result similar to the experience, is: taking life leads to a short life, stealing leads to meager possessions, sexual misconduct leads to many enemies, lying leads to many slanders, divisive speech leads to enmity with friends, harsh speech leads to hearing unpleasant sounds, idle talk leads to unreliable speech, covetousness leads to unfulfilled wishes, harmful intent leads to the generation of fear, and wrong view leads to foolishness and delusion. The result similar to the action is: because one did that action before, one enjoys doing that action again later. The third, the dominating result, is: it ripens on external objects. Taking life leads to the reduced potency of grains and medicines, stealing leads to crop failure, sexual misconduct leads to places filled with dust, mist, and rain, lying leads to places that are foul-smelling and filled with filth, divisive speech leads to land becoming cliffs, abysses, and ravines, harsh speech leads to land becoming barren salt flats, thorny places, and salty places, idle talk leads to the climate and seasons becoming irregular, covetousness leads to grains becoming small and of poor quality, harmful intent leads to good tastes and essences becoming bad, and wrong view leads to grains diminishing from a small amount to complete disappearance, etc. Thus, the result similar to the cause and the dominating
