The body ages, limbs become crooked, flesh and skin dry up, the form deteriorates, unable to stand or walk, strength declines, eyes become blurred, ears become deaf, and other senses decline. If food is scarce, there is hunger; if plentiful, there is indigestion, and other enjoyments decline, thus possessing five sufferings. Third, when sick, the feeling of pain causes discomfort, muscles waste away, skin dries up, and the body's natural state changes. One is unable to go to desired places, and must rely on unwanted harsh medical treatments. The life force is near exhaustion, causing fear and dread, thus possessing five sufferings. Fourth, at the time of death, one is separated from enjoyments, relatives, friends, and wealthy attendants. The cherished body is also abandoned, and one experiences intense discomfort, thus possessing five sufferings. Furthermore, what one has is never enough: if one possesses enjoyments, power, fame, food, wealth, livestock, etc., one must strive day and night with great effort to accumulate, protect, and increase them. Even a slight loss causes suffering due to great discomfort. What one does not have, one seeks but cannot obtain: for the sake of enjoyments, food, wealth, etc., one endures hunger, thirst, and fatigue, and even strives without regard for body and life, yet cannot even adequately secure food and clothing, thus suffering. Encountering what one does not want: the harm from powerful people, enemies, thieves, wild animals, etc., may suddenly come at any time. Like the subjects of a king or the servants of a rich person, one must do those things even if unwilling, thus suffering. Separation from what one desires: separation from indispensable people such as parents, siblings, friends, and relatives, or the decline of power and enjoyments, the loss of wealth, the death of livestock, etc., separation from things cherished in the heart causes great sorrow, thus suffering. The Asuras, merely by possessing such a body, spend their days constantly fighting with others due to intense jealousy. Especially when fighting with the gods, the Asuras are defeated due to their meager merit, and even suffer killing and beating. They mostly belong to the dark side, so they do not believe in the Dharma. The gods also spend their time distracted by temporary pleasures, and do not generate the thought of practicing the Dharma. Even long lifespans feel like only a moment, and signs of death appear on the body.

The radiance fades. Due to sorrow in the heart, there is no desire to sit still on the cushion. The floral decorations are old, the clothes are stained, and when the body emits sweat, other companions also abandon and leave. Seeing the descent into the lower realms after death, one experiences unbearable suffering for a long time. In short, no matter where one is born in the high or low realms of samsara, there is not even a little happiness. Guru Rinpoche said, "In this samsara, there is never any happiness, not even the size of a needlepoint." He also said, "Even if there is a little happiness, there is the suffering of change." All the five aggregates of clinging, where feeling is neutral and pervasive, are the suffering of conditioning, and there is no samsara that is not pervaded by it. All the painful feelings of the three lower realms and the diseases and demonic influences of the higher realms are the suffering of suffering. All the feelings of happiness, such as the samadhi of concentration and the happiness of gods and humans, are the suffering of change, so generate the determination to be liberated from these three sufferings. Furthermore, in this samsara, there is no certainty in high and low, happiness and suffering, enemies and friends, parents and children, places, bodies, and possessions. One is never satisfied with enjoying sensual pleasures, and one never tires of experiencing suffering. One must abandon the body again and again, and one must connect the continuum again and again. Happiness and suffering, high and low, prosperity and decline change in various ways, and one experiences the suffering of birth, old age, sickness, and death alone and without support. Therefore, seeing this samsara tormented by the six sufferings as a pit of fire and a slaughterhouse, one thinks of escaping from it by all means. Second, contemplating the origin of the cause, the origin of suffering. This samsara, which is full of suffering, did not arise naturally without cause or condition. All of it arose from the accumulation of karma. All karma arises from the motivation of afflictions. Afflictions have many classifications, such as the six root afflictions and the nine secondary afflictions, but the root of all is the three poisons. The root of everything is being obscured by ignorance, which does not understand the true nature, clinging to the aggregates and giving rise to the self, and clinging to self-love, thereby becoming the cause of samsara. Relying on self-grasping, all evil views arise, towards one's own body and mind, and other internal sentient beings and external
