If you want to cause diarrhea, use a thumb-sized piece of graveyard soil; if you want to cause vomiting, use a thumb-sized piece of dog rose and safflower. Combine and administer both. Due to various actions, the Ḍākinīs are deeply disturbed; the black demons, yakṣas, and obstructors, and all the nāgas beneath the earth are agitated; the earth's disease blazes like fire, and various evil diseases will arise. In particular, the severe epidemic called "Black Demon's Assault" will cause people to suffer heavy casualties. For this, there are methods of protection, diagnosis, and treatment. Thus it was said. The lord inquired: Great Mahāguru Rinpoche, what is "Black Demon's Assault" like? How do the symptoms of this disease manifest? How should one protect against it? How should one apply the methods of treatment? Guru replied: There are three methods for diagnosing this disease: Generally, the characteristics of the disease; specifically, the symptoms of Black Demon's Assault; especially, the symptoms of the disease affecting the organs. First, the characteristics of the epidemic (general symptoms) are: Headache and body ache without cause, confusion. The pulse is tense, similar to the pulse of fever; the four limbs ache, like wind disease. In particular, headache and dizziness; pain in the shoulders, neck, back, and scapula; many nightmares, with yellow or black hallucinations; staring eyes and displeasure; drowsiness, confusion, and joint pain. When the disease first attacks the body: Weakness and goosebumps; yellow or black hallucinations (when it attacks the skin): craving for sunlight. When it attacks the pulse: The pulse beats abnormally, thirst. When it attacks the muscles: Heavy body, hot muscles, dizziness. When it attacks the internal organs: Dry tongue, diarrhea, loss of appetite. When it attacks the organs: Body color changes, discomfort in the internal organs. Specifically, the symptoms of Black Demon's Assault are: Whether or not a large black spot of Brahma appears (black spots appear on the blood vessels of the eyes). Whether or not the mirror loses its luster (whether the back is heavy or painful). Whether or not the mountain is covered with dark clouds (whether the anus is painful or swollen). Whether or not a large black spot of a demon appears (white spots appear on the tongue, and red or black appears under the tongue). Whether or not the Lord of Death moves the life force (the pulse of the wrist beats violently). Whether or not the ocean is filled with blood (urine is black and oily). One or two symptoms are easy to treat, four or five symptoms can only be barely maintained, and if all six symptoms appear, the end is near. Especially, the symptoms of the disease affecting the organs: When it attacks the life force, one looks up to the sky, loses consciousness, and the eyeballs turn red. When it attacks the heart, the heart beats wildly, angina, shortness of breath, displeasure. When it attacks the lungs, chest and back pain, cough, coughing up yellow or black phlegm. When it attacks the liver, discomfort and pain in the liver area.
