There are two: guiding through the door of tranquility and guiding through the door of insight. First, guiding through the door of tranquility also has two aspects: with characteristics and without characteristics. Having characteristics also has support and no support. The first is: the body should be in the seven-fold posture of Vairochana: legs in vajra posture or heroic posture, hands in equipoise, spine straight and body upright, arms extended, neck slightly bent, tongue lightly touching the upper palate, eyes lowered to the tip of the nose and unmoving. Then, in terms of gaze, place an object of focus such as a pebble or a piece of wood, and without analyzing it, simply relax and focus the mind on it, without letting it wander or stray elsewhere. At night, focus on a black dot the size of a bean between your eyebrows, and if it is difficult to find a point of focus and you feel tired, visualize a complete colored Buddha image in the sky in front of you and focus your mind on it. The second is without support, which includes practicing with the movement of breath and without breath. The first is: simply be aware of the inhalation and exhalation, and keep the mind focused without distraction. The second is without breath: do not rely on any external forms or sounds, or internal movements of breath, and do not create, think, or conceptualize any thoughts of the past, future, or present, but relax and abide in the intermediate state. When abiding in this way, if the mind is agitated, lower the gaze and focus below the navel, and suppress the male energy; if you are dull, clear the stale air, raise your gaze, walk around, and dispel fatigue. The second is without characteristics, which has two aspects: tightening and loosening. The first is tightening: keep the gaze straight ahead, raise the spirit, and tighten without distraction for even a moment, then release after a short time. Then tighten completely again and gradually settle into a state of non-distraction. The second is loosening: let go of the desire to meditate or not meditate, to stay or not stay, and relax the mind and body. Let the mind naturally settle into a state of calmness, and maintain awareness with broad mindfulness without distraction. The second is guiding through the door of insight, which has two aspects: Determining the nature of various appearances, and cutting off the attachment to that basis. First, it also includes determining the nature of the root mind and determining the nature of luminous phenomena.
