Moreover, there is not a single sentient being who is not pervaded by the Sugata-garbha. That Sugata-garbha does not have any good or bad, big or small, faults or merits, partiality towards Buddhas and sentient beings, not even a hair's breadth. It is just due to the difference between realization and non-realization that the two names of samsara and nirvana are established. Recognize this very nature as it is, without remaining merely at the level of verbal expression and understanding. Do not disturb its mental events with fabrication, adulteration, rejection, acceptance, hope, fear, or dualistic grasping. Let your own nature, own characteristic, own state be naturally and effortlessly relaxed, loose, and calm, like the clear and bright sky without clouds, like the ocean without waves, like the clear and radiant flame of a candle undisturbed by the wind. In short, do not be bound by the fetters of existence and non-existence, right and wrong, good and bad, hope and fear, dualistic grasping. Whatever arises, do not grasp, do not negate, do not affirm, do not reject, do not accept, maintain unwavering awareness. In this way, you will seize the stronghold of realizing the nature of reality, and without effort, you will attain the so-called state of the Dharmakaya free from elaboration. Immediately, in that very instant, you will manifest the state of the great Dharmakaya free from elaboration. Secondly, the bardo of birth and death refers to the intermediate state between birth and death. The practice in this state is like a mother garuda or vulture raising its young. The mother garuda or vulture carefully nurtures its young, and although the young bird has wings, it cannot fly high because its wings are not yet fully developed, and it is also afraid of cliffs. But as the mother bird feeds and trains it, it eventually spreads its wings and soars high, unafraid of cliffs. Similarly, from birth to death, do not be separated from the lama, and do not keep the teachings you receive only at the level of verbal expression and understanding, but apply them to your own mindstream, practice them, gain warmth, generate experience, establish confidence, and attain inner peace. That is, the lama, with the key points of the instructions, introduces your own mind as the Dharmakaya, which is neither created by the Buddha in a clever way, nor transformed by sentient beings in a clever way. Let your own mind naturally relax and abide in its natural state. First, recognize your own mind, and thereby be certain that your own mind is free from all extremes of existence and non-existence, and is inexpressible. Through practice, external

All appearances of the six realms are determined to be one's own mind. All the magical displays of inner thoughts are also determined to be one's own mind. The nature of mind, without basis or root, transcending all objects of expression, is determined to be the great, non-dual wisdom. By practicing the non-duality of samsara and nirvana, hell is determined to be one's own mind and appearance, and the suffering of heat and cold is naturally liberated. Similarly, the hunger and thirst of pretas, the exploitation of animals, the changes of humans, the battles of asuras, the falls of gods, and all six realms tormented by the four rivers of suffering, in short, all of samsara and nirvana are determined to be one's own mind. Thus, even mere appearances, in conventional truth, seem to arise from the self-nature and self-appearance of virtue and vice, like wandering in samsara and passing into nirvana. But in ultimate truth, all of samsara and nirvana are not established apart from the mind. When the mind transcends the limits of dualistic grasping and conceptual elaboration, and experience naturally and effortlessly arises, then there is no need for hope or fear regarding samsara and nirvana. Third, the intermediate state between moments of consciousness, is the state between moments of consciousness. It is like raising a lamp in a dark room. Just as by raising a lamp in a dark room, the darkness vanishes without a trace, and objects are clearly seen, so too, do not chase after past thoughts, nor anticipate future thoughts. Let the present moment of consciousness rest naturally, naked and unadorned. If thoughts arise, do not deliberately treat them as enemies to be refuted. Because thoughts are the self-display and self-radiance of one's own mind, do not alter, adulterate, negate, affirm, fabricate, or modify them. By resting naked in their very essence, the nature of reality is completely and effortlessly liberated into great, non-dual wisdom. Because thoughts are continuous, so too is wisdom continuous. Merely by realizing one's own mind, all the innate defilements from beginningless time vanish without a trace in that very instant, just as when a lamp is lit in a dark cave that has been deprived of light for many eons, it is instantly destroyed all at once. Fourth, the intermediate state of dreams, is the confused experience between falling asleep and waking up. It is like not obtaining collateral from a bad source.
