That is it. Therefore, in the Abhidharmakosha it says, "Life is the duration, and warmth, which is the basis of consciousness." Here it says that life and lifespan are the same meaning. In some texts, they are said to be different. Also, considering life as wind, etc., all these views are not actually contradictory. In the center of the body, the letter of the essence of pure air, which is the basis of consciousness, exists, that is life. The duration of that existence is called lifespan. That aspect of moving along with the mind is called soul, thus establishing them as different. If the enemy's soul is taken away, that person's lifespan diminishes, and the key to the end of life lies in this. Therefore, understanding the location of life, using methods to seize it, etc., knowing the key to being able to transform it at will, and becoming independent through practice, one gains the confidence to be able to do as one wishes. For example, when helping a leper, seizing the life of a Naga and changing the name to Vajrapani, the location of the life of the harming Naga is transformed, and the harming demon also becomes a beneficial deity, thus the blessing becomes very great. If harm is brought, seizing the life of that deity Vajrapani and changing the name to Naga, the beneficial deity also becomes a harmful demon. Like this, because one has gained control over life, one can freely engage in any activity of benefit or harm, because one understands the meaning of profound dependent origination, one transforms the life of sentient beings into the life of a Buddha, thereby changing the name, becoming a deity, etc., any activity can be accomplished as desired, so it is said. Like this, after understanding the location of life, explaining the methods of how to seize that life, there are three: seizing the outer life with profound secret mantra, seizing the inner life with profound samadhi, and seizing the secret life with profound view. The first is that from Yaki Gyalwa Shithro to Maki Drong Gyuk Theurang, there are four kinds of life that exist distinctly. The unchanging life is ཨེ(藏文,梵文天城体अ,梵文罗马拟音a,汉语字面意思) or ཏྲི(藏文,梵文天城体,梵文罗马拟音,汉语字面意思) of all of samsara and nirvana. The existing life is the actual life of each individual, such as ནྲྀ(藏文,梵文天城体,梵文罗马拟音,汉语字面意思) of humans. The guiding life is the recitation of the heart mantra of each deity and demon. The imputed life is the name of each, these four. The guiding life that is called by name possesses both the imputed and the guiding. Also, other names such as soul, dak, etc., can also be the imputed life. Or, the unchanging life of humans ནྲྀ(藏文,梵文天城体,梵文罗马拟音,汉语字面意思), both the imputed life and the guiding life are one's own name.

First, the abiding life symbol is explained. Furthermore, in the Kagyü Zongtrang, it is said that for the gods and demons, their nature's life, the soul resides in a box, and consciousness relies on it. Abiding is the essence of life, the self-life abiding in the heart in the form of letters. Swiftness is the essence of life, accomplishing whatever task is entrusted through recitation. The essence of the nature of life is the inseparability of mind and dharmata. Thus it is said. Also, it is said that life is the seed syllable and the mantra to be recited, etc. All the various statements about life, in reality, for the deity to be accomplished, are summarized into the heart-life and heart-mantra of that deity. For ordinary beings such as humans, they are also summarized into self-life and name, so by seizing and tormenting them, the activity is accomplished as envisioned. Therefore, for the deity who transcends the world, through the door of equanimity without self and other, the four pegs of the life seal are hammered in, and by repeatedly reciting the deity's heart-mantra, one becomes close to the deity himself, and through the door of accomplishing without duality, one attains accomplishment. The key to unlocking the life-vein of worldly arrogant ones is: first, in order to subdue gods and demons, the most important thing is to please the lama, and to complete the recitation and approach of the chosen deity. Abiding in the samadhi of any self-arisen Heruka, reciting the mantra of the one being targeted, through the sound and light of the mantra, offering to the Sugatas, urging the samaya, purifying the habitual tendencies of the six types of sentient beings, striking the general assembly of the Eight Classes or the one being targeted, visualizing the jewel boxes residing in the center of each one's heart, melting like snow melted by the sun, or like bird feathers burned by fire, this is called opening the latch or destroying the life-castle. Then, visualize that in the jewel box, the seed syllable of the five essences combined is surrounded by his name, and draw it out with the iron hook of the mantra like fishing. Recite the life-heart of the chosen deity and the arrogant one being targeted. Furthermore, if one grasps it with the view of dharmata and recites the life-heart of the arrogant gods and demons with the pride of the superior deity, then the Eight Classes, like leaves blown by the wind, will involuntarily come before me because of the unbearable power of life.
