The tantra is based on opening Liberation through hearing is like untying the reins of a steed. However, one cannot be liberated into vast wisdom with only a small amount of hearing. Therefore, one must seek many doors of hearing, gathering from all paths like a bee collecting nectar, and hear extensively. Even with extensive hearing, if the practice does not grasp the key points, one's own being cannot be liberated. Therefore, one must deeply integrate the ultimate key points of the oral instructions into experience, and then gather them into one key point, grasping the essence like a merchant seeking profit. In this way, one understands the meaning of the tantra through hearing, puts the meaning of the tantra into practice through scriptural authority, and generates confidence through oral instructions, thereby gaining unwavering certainty through learning, becoming an outstanding scholar, like reaching the summit of a high mountain. These four are the ways to learn the secret mantra. On top of these four, adding the six edges of learning spoken from the perspective of the object of learning, thus forming ten edges of learning. So, what are the six edges of learning? Progressing in stages through empowerment, grasping the foundation through vows, defining the limits through view, obtaining experience through samadhi, abandoning the place through conduct, and accomplishing the meaning through oral instructions, these are the six. Among them, progressing in stages through empowerment means that after obtaining the empowerment of secret mantra and the empowerment of secrecy, one becomes capable of not being defiled by afflictions, like a prince ascending the throne. Grasping the foundation through vows means pleasing the guru and not transgressing the vows that have been spoken, like fertile land, capable of growing the crops of accomplishment. Defining the limits through view means that all phenomena of samsara and nirvana are gathered into one's own mind, and realizing that the mind is originally Buddha, is self-born wisdom, thereby being free from effort, hope, and fear, and wandering freely, like a garuda soaring in the sky. Obtaining experience through samadhi means that with the object of wisdom, one focuses single-pointedly without distraction through samadhi, like obtaining a precious jewel. Abandoning the place through conduct means abandoning all activities done in equipoise and entering the path of practice; and in the post-meditation state, being in accordance with the profound view of non-acceptance and non-rejection, equality, wandering fearlessly, and engaging in various activities as one wishes, like an elephant entering water. Accomplishing the meaning through oral instructions means, for what purpose does one prac

Through the pith instructions that penetrate the meaning of covering, by practicing with unwavering conviction, upon realization and attainment of samadhi, conquering the four maras and attaining the three kayas is like purchasing a precious jewel. Thus, practicing the six limits and enjoying the two resources of wisdom and samadhi is the great lord of yoga. So it is said. Thus, the way of entering the meaning of the eight great practices by the method of teaching the ten or six limits of practice, if summarized in essence, is included in the practice of the three, fortress, defile, and life. To explain it briefly, the fortress is the view, that is, if one has attained the fortress of a view with conviction, one will not fear anything, because one has secured one's own permanent position. To hold the fortress of the view, one must travel there from the defile of meditation. If one does not arrive at the view through experience, it is useless to merely understand it, so one must travel through the defile of meditation to reach the fortress of the view. Therefore, it is important to meditate according to the view. Vajrasattva also did not say that one can attain Buddhahood without meditation, this is the instruction. Having attained the fortress of the view from the defile of meditation, and by seizing life through the door of conduct, one gains control over all phenomena of samsara and nirvana, so such a one is said to be the intention of the great lord of yoga. What is the fortress of the view? All phenomena of samsara and nirvana are included in one's own mind, and one's own mind is originally unborn and unceasing, the equality, the self-arisen wisdom, the primordial great bliss, the mind of bodhi. As the meaning of the tantras and agamas, through the guru's pith instructions, one penetrates the essential point and recognizes it, this is called the fortress. This is the ultimate essential point of seizing the emptiness of samsara and nirvana. Once one recognizes the innate wisdom of the nature of mind, the deity to be accomplished and the pride of the world, and all the phenomena of existence and samsara, will ultimately be perfected and included in the space of that one suchness. Regarding this, in the classification of secret mantra teachings, there are the fortress and defile of the view, and the fortress is also divided into the fortress of pervasive vastness, great bliss, and completion, and the fortress of all-inclusive intention. In the Kagyu fortress and defile, there are the three dharmas of the fortress, namely, the essential emptiness of the alaya base, the spontaneously accomplished three kayas of the result, and the egg of ignorance...
