And abide, taking refuge and generating bodhicitta as the preliminary, gaze at the object of focus without moving your eyes. Then, if the clear appearance of the deity vividly arises in your mind, do not be too attached to it. In that state where the clear appearance does not cease, rest loosely and evenly. Even if dullness or lethargy occurs, do not interrupt it. By cultivating in this way, after a while, the clear appearance of the deity will arise spontaneously from the state of non-thought. At that time, practice not focusing on the object of focus, and contemplate yourself as the deity. In the three places you are practicing, visualize a lotus and a crossed vajra, marked with three seed syllables. Focus on this single-pointedly, and alternately recite the three seed syllables in voice vajra and mind vajra. If you feel tired, you can also recite some voice vajra. By meditating in this way repeatedly, first, the image of the deity will be vividly clear in your mind. Then, as if there were signs of touch and sight, it will be clearly visible in the manifestation of the senses. After that, with more effort, what is called appearing in the realm of the body will occur, that is, the impure appearances represented by your own body will disappear, and you will focus single-pointedly on the clear appearance of the deity, and a firm sense of divine pride will arise. These three appearances are also called the realm of mind, the realm of appearance, and the realm of attachment. In this way, after the three realms are clear, from each part of the body to the smallest ornaments, clear appearances will emerge. Practice with uncertain aspects such as the size, number, distance, length, and duration of the deity's image. This is called becoming a servant of the deity, and you will feel happy no matter how you practice. After that, begin to practice the wheels of the mandala of peaceful, wrathful, increasing, moderate, and subduing deities. This should also be done by understanding all appearing phenomena as illusory. In that state, all appearances disappear like a rainbow in the sky, and rest slightly in a state of non-thought. Then, recite the mantra of emptiness, thinking that all phenomena are primordially pure by nature, empty, free from elaboration, and self-arisen wisdom. Abide in that state, which is the samadhi of suchness. Even so, for sentient beings who have not realized this, cultivate vast compassion that is unattached and like an illusion, which is the samadhi of universal appearance. From the union of emptiness and great compassion, arise letters like self-aware A(藏文:ཨ,梵文天城体:अ,梵文罗马拟音:a,汉语字面意思:阿) or Hūṃ(藏文:ཧཱུྃ,梵文天城体:हूँ,梵文罗马拟音:hūṃ,汉语字面意思:吽) that are clear and blissful.

Meditating on the nature of emptiness is the Samadhi of the cause. That itself is generated as the deity of the cause, or even if not generated, it is fine. From that, the seed syllables are gradually elaborated, and the foundation below, along with the palace that is the support of the five mothers, is meditated upon. Inside that, on top of the seat, from the letter of the cause or the deity of the cause descending, according to how it is appropriate, the main deity is generated, and by the order of expanding the retinue, the wheel of deities that are the dependents is meditated upon, whether it is peaceful or wrathful, it does not matter. In the generation stage, clarity arises, and since the nature of mind is primordially pure as a deity, it is decided that the wheel of the mandala is not to be sought from elsewhere. The union of mind and the deity's body should also be cultivated as clarity and emptiness, free from clinging, this is the essential point. Moreover, in the special completion stage, those Samadhis and so forth are combined with the first ground of the power of Samadhi being stabilized and so forth. The great teacher Sangye Gungwa (Buddha-Gupta) said: Combine with purifying the habitual tendencies of the three, birth, death, and bardo, by meditating on that Samadhi, purify death and make the Dharmakaya the path. With all Samadhi, purify the bardo and make the Sambhogakaya the path. With the Samadhi of the cause and the wheel of the mandala of the result and so forth, purify the existence of birth and the various actions of karma, and make the activity of the Nirmanakaya and so forth the path. Finally, by gathering the wheel of the mandala into luminosity and then rising, all the habitual tendencies of future existences that depend on later rebirths are purified, and it symbolizes accomplishing the benefit of others from within the state of the Svabhavikakaya. In general, the way to meditate according to this instruction is, depending on the difference in the capacity of individuals, externally, relying on the mandala with signs, training appearances as deities. Internally, relying on the mandala of the aggregates and the collection of thoughts, training the five families and so forth as deities. Secretly, relying on the mandala of the five poisons, the method of training them as the five wisdoms is extensively taught in the context of peaceful deities. Also, externally, like the generation of Mahayoga, generating in stages with the three vows and so forth, or symbolizing with the mandala with signs, placing the mandala externally. Internally, like the completion of Anuyoga, merely by generating and reciting mantras, generating in the manner of completion like stars appearing in clear water, or relying on the mandala of the five aggregates and five elements, training the body mandala.
