For whatever arises, carefully examine the place of arising, the place of going, and the place of dwelling; in meaning, there is no cause and condition, cut off attachment; in the unfabricated state, stabilize the equipoise; in this way, obstacles and hindrances on the path will be eliminated. As it is said, when illness arises in the body, examine where the illness first arose, where it dwells in the middle, and where it ultimately goes, and observe the nature of the illness. Moreover, know that illness comes from the habit of cherishing attachment, as well as from the conceptual thoughts of suffering from illness, fear of death, and the feeling of pain as the ripening of past karma, so do not taste the flavor of pain, and if you observe well, the self-nature of conceptual thought will appear as the Dharmakaya, great bliss. Similarly, for all good and bad circumstances, examine the three places of arising, dwelling, and going, and thoroughly cut off the root, and by abiding in the unfabricated state, all obstacles and hindrances on the path will be eliminated. In the Kadag Dharma class, "Treasury of Eliminating Obstacles," it says: In this way, by placing the three doors in their own nature, all coarse and subtle conceptual thoughts will be pacified, and the mind will naturally abide in its own place. That is called calm abiding. As it is said. The above is the method of calm abiding that abides in the clinging of the mind, and the sequence including the elimination of those obstacles. Second, finding meditation from the perspective of view, distinguishing the essence from the way of searching for the mind: In the root it says: Then examine body-mind and appearance-mind. Examine the three places of arising, dwelling, and going, and make a conclusion. Although the guiding text does not say to examine body-mind and appearance-mind, the oral transmission of the lama is: Observe whether mind arises from body or body arises from mind, and report whatever experience arises to the lama. The two, appearance-mind, are also observed in the same way. The meaning of those will be explained in the introduction below. Examining the three places of arising, dwelling, and going is: In the guiding text it says: Then the yogi observes the nature of the mind, first for three days thinking about the place of arising of the mind, if the place of arising exists, then examine its root, if the place of arising does not exist, how could it exist without a cause? Then for three days observe the color of the mind, as well as the shape and form, whether it is established or not established? If it is established, then cut off its root well, if it is not established, from where does the scattering come? Then for three days observe the place of going of the mind, if the place of going exists, then cut off its root, if the place of going does not exist, how can you trust it? Not just words on the mouth, observe well. As it is said, the mind is called

Where did this affair first arise? Where does it reside in the middle? Where does it go in the end? How big or small is the mind's form? What is its shape, round or square? If it has a form, what color does it appear to be, white or red? Is it one or many? If it is one, what is it like? If it is many, how many are there? Where do the appearances of the six external sense objects reside? Where does it reside in the body, from the crown of the head to the soles of the feet? If there are many, how do they appear, each with its own shape, color, and so on, based on a foundation? If there is only one, what is its shape and form like? Since the mind resides in this body, when it radiates outward from within the body, does the mind that radiates outward and the mind that resides within appear as two because they have become two? If it is one, when it radiates outward, is there no mind inside, like a dead corpse? And so on, according to the instruction manual, for nine days, and for those with dull faculties, even longer, they are made to contemplate, and the lama asks questions separately. At this time, some people answer haphazardly without investigation, and some answer by looking at examples, and so on, so it is important not to rush the introduction until a proper answer is given that is rationally clear, and to repeatedly ask questions until they hit rock bottom. Thus, this stage of searching for the mind is the preliminary stage. When the main practice is to introduce the three origins, etc., the root text says: Then, the nature of mind is emptiness and clarity, without grasping. It is introduced as the three bodies from the beginning. The essence of emptiness is the Dharmakaya, its radiance. The nature of clarity is the Sambhogakaya, and the unceasing compassion is the Nirmanakaya. In essence, this unadulterated, natural awareness is inseparable from clarity and emptiness, inseparable from appearance and emptiness, and inseparable from awareness and emptiness. It is clear and distinct, open and free, and free from the extremes of elaboration. From the beginning, it is the three bodies, the lama's own nature. The meaning of what is said is: The instruction manual says: If you understand for sure, this is the essence of mind. It has no place of origin, like the sky. The earth itself is formed from emptiness. It cannot be defined, and anything can arise. The earth, crops, sentient beings, birth and death, and
