Everything rests equally in the state of great emptiness. Visualize a wrathful blue Guru Dragpo in the sky, and pray to him with your mind. Visualize that he transforms into blue rays of light and dissolves into your heart. Remain in a state of non-attachment for three days. By doing so, you will be liberated from the subtle and gross thoughts called "thought thieves" and the obstacles of vast and boundless agitation. Fourth, eliminating the obstacles of wandering consciousness, hope, fear, and self-grasping: From the root text: Sometimes, various kinds of happiness, suffering, hope, and fear arise. Whatever appears, let it go into self-liberation like ripples in water or a snake knot. Without dwelling on that, focus your mind on the five-colored Guru, visualize the light dissolving into yourself, and remain in a state of non-attachment for one day. As the instruction text says: Even if you meditate without attachment, if your consciousness is still wandering, and you are bound by hope, fear, and strong self-grasping, then all appearances and mental activities are mistaken. Remember that birth, death, change, and impermanence are all impermanent. Fear, cold, heat, and disease are also illusions. Even if you go to hell for eons and are boiled and burned, because the mind has no birth or death, you will eventually escape from it. Food, wealth, relatives, and affection are all illusions. Even if you cherish your own body, you will eventually die. The cause of samsara is hope, fear, and doubt. The Buddha's intention is emptiness, clarity, and non-attachment. For example, the sky is free from clouds, clear and bright, with no identifiable features. Therefore, the practitioner should diligently release consciousness, and focus consciousness on the sky and a mirror. Maintain sharp awareness, and abandon prejudice, attachment, and clinging. Rest in an unaltered state, even for a moment. Dissolve the five-colored Guru into yourself. By meditating in this way for three days, you will cut off doubt. As it is said in the text, the way to meditate on its meaning is: Whatever happiness, suffering, hope, and fear appear, let them self-liberate like ripples in water or a snake knot. Rest in a natural state without any attachment. Even so, if consciousness is still wandering, and the knots of hope and self-grasping have not been untied, then think like this: The activities of clinging to external appearances cause the mind to generate various thoughts. Recognize that everything is illusory, and remember that birth, death, and change are all impermanent. Here, for the appearing mind, recognize that fear, the body's cold and heat, and diseases, etc., are not permanent, but are illusions, because of the delusion of the mind's appearances.

Even having experienced the suffering of being boiled and burned in hell for countless kalpas, one is liberated from hell because the mind has no birth or death. In this life, one cherishes and clings to food, wealth, and relatives, but because they are illusory, they cannot be permanent. The instruction manual says, "Relatives, food, and wealth are like a haystack on a mountain peak; no matter what you do, they will eventually separate, so abandon the heart of attachment." Therefore, even if you cherish your body, you will eventually face death, and therefore, you are bound by the hope and doubt of good and evil, which are the causes of wandering in samsara. Understand that everything is an illusion without grasping. Ultimately, the Buddha's ultimate intention is also empty and clear, without grasping, like a cloudless sky, and cannot be grasped. Therefore, quickly extract your consciousness from samsara. Focus your awareness on the external sky and the stainless mirror, merge the realm of reality and wisdom, and abide in the state of non-grasping and non-fabrication. Although it is said in the root text to abide for one day, the instruction manual says to abide for a moment. Therefore, understand that the meaning of abiding for a moment is until the appearance of subsequent attainment arises. If you do not abide in this samadhi and the experience of realization arises, then visualize in the space in front of you the guru's peaceful and wrathful forms, appearing as you wish, radiating five-colored light, focus your mind and pray with your mind, and finally merge into yourself, and meditate for three days as it is said. The fifth is to establish the basis of calm abiding, in order to eliminate the various obstacles of the three poisons. Basically, "Then examine the body and mind, and the appearance and mind." And the explanation of determination, etc., will be explained later in the section on searching for the mind. Here, in order not to waste the chapters of the instruction manual, briefly explain the fifth point. The instruction manual says, "Appearance is self-appearance, sound is self-sound, movement is self-empty, so abide in its nature. By meditating in this way, discursive thoughts gradually decrease, the awareness of luminosity and emptiness gradually increases, memory becomes clearer and clearer, and thoughts gradually subside. The appearance of the body, without feeling or perception, the entry and exit of breath are also not felt, and awareness is like a calm, waveless ocean. This is the basis of meditation, indispensable, called calm abiding, and is the field of meditation." Therefore, for the object of external appearance and sound, the nature of the moving thought is the state of emptiness.
