Rest and relax naturally, just like taking a break. Meditate in this way, just as the moon's reflection appears in a pool of water, inseparable from the water, outward appearances do not cease. When abiding in the natural state, unbound by clinging within, no matter how the appearances of the six consciousnesses arise, there is no grasping, just self-illuminating nakedness. The mind is without the gathering and dispersing of thoughts, clear and transparent. During this time, abiding in its own place, the nature of mind is not defiled by the clinging of the mind, in the state of the self-born nature of mind, in the great luminosity of primordial purity, free from elaboration, without wavering from the recognition of its own essence. The primordial state of awareness and emptiness, which transcends the intellect, the spontaneously arising wisdom of the Great Perfection's insight, will be manifested. Such calm abiding is the foundation of all samadhi, and insight is the antidote that uproots the afflictions of the peak of existence, so it is extremely important to cultivate the union of the two. The sutra says: If one cultivates calm abiding and insight, one will be liberated from the bonds of suffering and the bonds of characteristics. Shantideva said: Calm abiding subdues the afflictions, and insight uproots the afflictions. And so on, countless scriptures mention this. Third, the supreme view: The supreme view, in order to gain unwavering wisdom, relax the body and mind, move slowly, place the secret fruit of the eye in space, clarify the nature of reality with mindfulness, cultivate awareness and emptiness free from gathering and dispersing, whatever thoughts arise, do not follow or welcome them, be in the present, free from calculation, abide in the uncorrected and undefiled nature. So it is said. Having cultivated calm abiding and insight well, in order to obtain the supreme or excellent self-nature, the unwavering wisdom of the Great Perfection, which is primordially self-born, one should not tighten the key points of the body and mind too much, as when practicing calm abiding earlier, but rather the body should be in a natural and comfortable state, the mind should abide in a natural and liberated ordinary state, relaxing the body and mind, abandoning the actions and movements of the body, the speech and conversation of the mouth, recitation, etc., and abide very slowly.

Since it is the gate of rain, it is called stilling the ocean, without making distinctions or smiling, with a secret posture, the eyeballs turned upwards, staring fixedly into the sky. Apart from merely illuminating with the memory of natural Dharma, abandon all mental fixations such as what to meditate on and who is meditating, and rest in the naked awareness of emptiness without disturbing it with mental contraction or expansion. In that state, no matter how the appearances of conceptual thoughts of the six consciousnesses arise, they are nothing other than the magic of the mind, so do not chase after thoughts that have already arisen, do not anticipate thoughts that will arise, and do not affirm or negate the way of abiding in the present moment. Without calculation by the intellect, remain uncorrected in a state of non-fabrication. Abide in the natural state of innate nature, uncorrupted by the mind. As the great translator Vairochana said: "In the naked Dharmadhatu where there is nothing to meditate on, keep the unthinking awareness without distraction. When thoughts arise, they are self-arisen and naturally liberated. There is no root of view and meditation instructions other than this." As it is said, all the key points of Dzogchen's view and meditation are here, so if you can clearly distinguish between mind and awareness and awareness-emptiness becomes unobstructed, then you will never deviate from the realm of original purity and abide in equanimity. Here, expanding on what is said about the memory of Dharma, if you can understand well the classification of the six memories made by the omniscient Longchenpa in the Treasury of Word and Meaning, it will appear as the supreme general outline for meditating on Mahamudra and Dzogchen yoga. As it is said: "In the beginning, those who are engaged in activity should not be distracted by mental activity. Those who are learning samatha and vipassana should not be distracted by Dharma nature. When one is accustomed to it, one should not be distracted by awareness and wisdom. When one has become emptiness, there is no place to be distracted and no one to be distracted. When realization is manifest, the object of distraction is definitely Dharma nature. When Dharma is exhausted, it transcends the realm of expression. Please lead us to such a state." The second of the six memories mentioned here is the memory of Dharma nature. Among them, initially, in the stage of calm abiding, the memory of mental activity is used to cut off sudden thoughts arising in the mind, which is similar to the one-pointedness of the Kagyu school. If we only consider the single mind-holding of calm abiding, it will not go beyond that. The second memory of Dharma nature refers to, from the moment of seeing the naked awareness of non-conceptual insight, abiding in that state, the aggregates of thoughts will naturally liberate. The third is, in the stage of one taste, appear
