The pith instructions of the three empowerments are concise, profound, and extensive. May this instruction, composed by me, Orgyen, benefit all beings. Samaya! May the fortunate one who encounters this empowerment take it to heart and not disseminate this text. If disseminated, the warmth of the blessings will dissipate, so it should be kept very secret. Seal it with three seals and hide it on the great Garuda rock. May it meet with a fortunate heart-son! I, named Ratna, have revealed it. Good! Auspicious! Accomplishment! The Meaning Instructions on Accomplishing the Benefit of Self and Others and the Meaning Instructions on Liberating Self and Others. The Meaning Instructions on Accomplishing the Benefit of Self and Others reside here. The section on the Meaning Instructions on Liberating Self and Others. I prostrate to the deity of the three kayas, inseparable! I, like Padmasambhava, for the sake of leading beings of superior, middling, and inferior faculties onto the path to enlightenment, I teach the supreme path of the meaning instructions on the fruit. May this meet with a single fortunate one! It has three parts: preliminary, main practice, and concluding practice. The preliminary practices, such as the guru examining the disciple and the disciple examining the guru, are in accordance with the general teachings, so they are not elaborated upon here. In a secluded and pleasant place, gather the necessary materials and substances. First, ripen the disciple with empowerment, then begin with refuge, generating bodhicitta, mandala offerings, etc., for three days. Then, recite the Hundred Syllable Mantra as usual for two or three days. Guru Yoga is the same as all others. Then, in order to purify the obscurations of body, speech, and mind, recite the seed syllables of the three kayas for one day. Then, the body should be in the seven postures of Vairochana, the eyes unmoving, resting comfortably, and settling into the natural state for one day. Then, lean against a piece of wood or a stone and rest, settling into the natural state for two days. Then, the practice of focusing: using Hūṃ (藏文:ཧཱུྃ,梵文天城体:हुं,梵文罗马拟音:hūṃ,汉语字面意思:吽) as the object of focus, focus tightly and remain without scattering to various objects for one day. Then, visualize a white A (藏文:ཨ,梵文天城体:अ,梵文罗马拟音:a,汉语字面意思:阿) clearly in front, or even a painted image is fine, just as a support to prevent the mind from scattering. Relax and let go for one day. Then, with the body in the seven postures, entrust it to the sky like a bundle, and rest loosely for two days. Then, the mind itself looks inward at its own nature, staring intently. Do this for one day. At that time, Questions and Instructions

These should be mastered by the lama. Guru yoga and so on, should be done after reciting the Hundred Syllable Mantra in accordance with the common practice. Then, for the main practice, investigate the three sources, places, and destinations. Alone, endowed with the seven features of Vairochana, contemplate by examining external appearances. Investigate where the sky, earth, five elements, and so on, come from. Then, the settling contemplation is to thoroughly examine the nature of one's own mind. Then, investigate the place where the mind dwells. As before, in external appearances, one's own body, or nature, where does it dwell, how does it dwell? Examine the shape and color. Then, investigate the destination. When going, where does it go, how does it go, what is its shape and color? The lama should ask questions well. If a beginner speaks with intellect, repetition and correction are very important. Do this for three days. Then, introduce it. No source, introduce it as the Dharmakaya. No place, introduce it as the Sambhogakaya. No destination, introduce it as the Nirmanakaya. Then, the first of the main practice is to introduce the ground as the way it is. (ཀ) Then, the lama should also introduce the nature of mind well in various ways. With the key points of the body well, From the three ways of looking, these three will be enhanced. Adopt the way of looking of the Shravakas. The eyes, the tip of the nose, and the mind become one, and remain focused on a single point in the sky, about one cubit above the ground. Then, the way of looking of the Bodhisattvas is to look blankly and openly at the space directly in front of the eyes and meditate. Then, the way of looking of the Wrathful Deities is to open the eyes slightly and remain staring fiercely at the space between the eyebrows. Do each of these three for two days, for a total of six days. Then, primarily focus on shamatha, and whatever scattering or agitation arises, introduce it as the nature of reality through vipashyana. Then, practice in a natural and relaxed posture. If there is sinking, use the way of looking of the Wrathful Deities to cut off the movement of subtle and coarse thoughts, like the clearing of clouds in the sky. If there is sinking or excitement, use the way of looking of the Bodhisattvas to liberate the movement into its nature, like snow falling on a lake. If there is scattering or agitation, use the way of looking of the Shravakas to look at the nature of whatever arises, knowing it to be like meeting someone you have known before. For details, follow the lama's experience and the common Dharma, using examples and symbols.
